15384, Exhaust Silencer Question
Posted by pocotheeskimo, Feb-20-02 04:15 PM
Hello,
I emailed Thermal R&D yesterday and they have told me they don't make a silencer for any of their exhaust systems.. Does anyone know how hard, and if it's possible, to fabricate a silencer for it? Has anyone else done this? Probably not, but I figured I'd see if anyone has any ideas..
Also, I've been considering getting the Arospeed "Exhaust Valve Controller" ( http://www.arospeed.com/newstuff.htm ) thing which can be used to change the amount of exhaust getting through the pipes at once by a valve that closes/opens up when a switch is pulled.. If I were to go that route, I'd definately buy a test pipe to hopefully negate the HP loss from using it.. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I know Apexi makes one for the Japanese market, but not in the US.. Arospeed's the only company I know of, and it's on their new product list so I doubt very many people actually have one of these things.. But any input on the whole thing would be cool..

Gary

PS: Sorry for rambling

I suppose that'd work.. but seems like kinda a waste.. putting basically a throttle body in your exhaust.. hehe. You might want to think about putting a resonator in farther up stream.. that'll quite it down some.. and possibly give it a better sounding tone.

Thermals are already pretty quiet, one of the quietest exhaust systems i've ever heard. You want to quiet even more??? Well dats coo' Like Breezio said, try putting a resonator further upstream.

P.S. welcome aboard..........pun intended :-D

i believe that you can use the same silencer that is used on the apexi n1 mufflers..

Wouldn't a resonator add restriction? I guess anything would, but with a silencer I could choose to be restricted or (about 99% of the timer), be non restricted at all.. How hard would it be to fabricate a silencer do you think? Hmm.. maybe I'll market one if I ever make one =)

straight through resonators (cherry bombs, purple hornies, and other glass pack resonators) add little to no restriction. I think all resonators are straight through.
