Does it really work, I heard it was just a gimick to get more money out of you. Well even if it did work would I need it? I dont go through any puddles. I know the filter would be right behind the plastic vent next to the fog light..right? Well if im driving in the rain wouldnt the rain get on the filter since im going foward? Or is that rain so small it wouldnt matter. You get where Im comin from? Rain drops will get on the filter, but thats nothin big right or does rain even touch the filter? So basically Im askin, is the bypass valve necessary just to drive through rain, not puddles.

Yes, the bypass valve works. AEM does NOT make any gimmick products. Only real stuff. You must have missed the Sport Compact Car article where they used their NSX and submerged the filter into a tank of water at full throttle. If the bypass valve didn't work, that expensive NSX engine would be dead. So yes, it works...

Well, if you are going to be driving around in 2 feet of water go buy it. There was a recall on the AEM by-pass valve not too long ago, because they were faulty. But the simple fact remains, you don't need it. If you are going to be driving in that ammount of water, I think you will have more problems on your hands, with say, your electrical system. It's for paranoid people. My friend who runs a performance import shop wouldn't even order one for me because it's just a waste of money. But, hey, its your money.

the recall was about the filter element on the inside of the bypass valve not being secured. There were some instances that the element would break into pieces or as a whole get sucked into the intake pipe and jar open the butterfly valve. The "recall" was a plastic retainer to hold the inside element in place. I did the recall myself. IMO, I believe it is worth it rather than the consequence of not having it. I don't drive through puddles but I almost ended up hydrolocking my engine when a section of the alley flooded at night. There are no lights in my (old) alley and there didn't look to be any water. By the time I saw the ripples it was too late. $50 bypass valve vs $2000 rebuild .... hmmm ... better safe than sorry.

I have the air bypass valve.Last summer when I drove in the highway, there was really heavy rain, I heard some water sucking sound came from the engine bay and I never heard it be4, I think the water was going into the tube and the bypass valve is working? just a thought.
it is just $ 50 dollars, get it! so you dont have to worry..
