15227, Compression test
Posted by Dualgen2, Feb-20-02 12:07 AM
boss was at work yesterday so once again I couldn't get compression test done yet. I hate waiting, but a friend of mine said compression test could be fine even if I have messed up rings and only a cracked piston would cause bad compression. Is this true? Another person said theres a chance all I need is a valve job. Either way Im sure I need a rebuild but when I do finally get compression test done and lets say it turns out good (whcih I doubt), could still be my rings?

As said before, your rings are most likely ok. It is the ringlands that crack, which is the piston. The compression test will help and is always a good start.

On the steps to do one, I believe there are instructions on either vfaq.com or on Corbins site or somewhere. I will have to look for sure as I forget. It is pretty easy though.
