Today it rained like a biotch!!! and i went through some puddles,nothing major or so I thought...well the first one i went through couldnt have been more than 1.5 to 2 inches deep and my car started lugging, then I popped the gas and all was fine then I hit another puddle and she dies out and i coast to the side of the road. I sat there for about 5 minutes then tried the ignition ( raining so damn hard I couldnt hear it turning over) and it just turned over and acted like it wanted to catch a few times but nothing so I sat another 5 minutes and tried again, well it finally caught and it sputtered through the first 3 or 4 thousand rpm and leveled out and sounded and ran fine. Now heres my question should I be worried about water being ingested in the engine or was this just my plugs getting wet? Its still raining so I havent checked for water in the oil,and i started and stoppped it a few times in the yard when i got home and everything sounds fine... should I be worried??????

Well, if you want to eliminate the problem, i would get a by-pass valve, i dont know if they make em for your type of cai,but they probably do. without a by-pass valve they say youre supposed to turn off the car, or if youre automatic, stop accelerating when you go thru a puddle. They're not that expensive like 30-40 bucks maybe.

check your head gasket, sometimes since water doesnt compress much it can blow your head gasket. i dont know a whole lot about this so i'm pretty much just keeping this string alive. if you think you got alot of water in there then its a bad thing :(

Don't even bother with the AEM By-pass valve. That flimsy little thing won't save your engine. I know a guy who runs a performance shop, those are just a gimmick to get more money out of you. Unless you fully submerge your CAI, you will not suck up any water into your engine. It sounds like you got water splashed on your ignition, that's why it died. But if you are really nervous about hydralock, check your oil, if it appears milky, then you have water in your engine, but I doubt that is the case. I just sugest that you go a little slower through the larger puddles from now on and never go through a puddle deeper then where you fog lights are.

No I really dont think alot water got in there just died out and the after a little hesitation it started and ran fine.....

Thanks sunblocker thats what I thought but kinda made me nervous...like I said it wasnt really even a puddle justabout 1.5 of water runnig across the road....

yea carrie dont floor it or be in high rpms in puddles..

keep them low.. a little bit of water being sucked in will evap or if it does get up in there wont do no harm.

unless its submerged in the waterlike that like you wont hydrolock..

it happened to me once.. car started to run all crappy so i pulled into a gas station out of the rain shut her off then cranked her back up..

revved it up lots.. and drove off.. was fine..

been through tons of storms with my CAI.. ull be fine

i've had water above my front bumper before w/ my cai and never had a problem. when that happened thou i put it in neutral and coasted thru the area as best i could.

The cai more than likely won't take in enough water to fill a cylinder, which is almost what it takes to screw the motor. The bypass won't hurt. I did it on mine. If the car started slugging around after that tho, it could be that water got into the plug wells or something. There are a lot of things puddles can do to stall a car out.
