A place called delta cams takes factory cams for the eclipse 420a(not neon) and grinds them just enought to lengthen the intake and exhaust duration without getting out of the factory hardend surface. said to gain about 10% or so more HP, for $170.00. good deal? better cams elsewhere? gimme some info, thanks.

you get what you pay for, imo, with any performance part.
i hear regrinds are only good for x amount of miles.
their statement of not grinding away the hardend part is their sales tool. u can do much better....

My only issue with regrinds is they can easily wear out over time. Almost any competent shop can you get you regrinds for around $300. For the money, I would prefer going with new cores vs a regrind. That is personal preference.

a new core is a complete cam cut from a single piece of material to the new specs, without any grinding? is that right?

Make sure if you do it they tell you what the lifters need to be shimmed to. My biggest problem with regrinds is when they add material to them. If done poorly then I've heard horror stories from old muscle cars about the metal added breaking off and causing serious damage. regrinding will shorten the life of a cam though, just because there is les material for wear. But $170 seem on par with regrind services.

michael: from what they told me they dont actualy add any more material, they just grind a bit off of a new stock cam. would that correct?

Yes and that is what I would suggest for what you are looking for, since no Billet cams are available yet. Just do the regrind where material is removed, and none added.
There are two ways to regrind, one where they take the stock cams and grinddown material to change the profiles. And the other where they grind and add material to create more radical profiles.
