I dont think yoyu wouold go wrong getting either of them... they are both proven. I personally like the way the AEM looks. I guess it would just depend on what YOU want bro...

I have an ice-man intake and it works great. Nice deep sound at WOT too. Have had it about a year and a half. I had a AEM coldair, but switched to ice-man because it was blue and made of plastic. This was when AEM only made silver intakes. For some reason I would think plastic would stay cooler than metal in an engine bay. I can drive all day long and still grab my iceman, never gets hot. I think power wise, they are around the same though.

the aem sits in a different place, right behind the drivers side foglight, I think the iceman goes straight down next to the tranny. I like the aem cai, I opened up my holes that were covered up with those black plastic pieces for added airflow.

14941, iceman is the key Posted by Marctronixx, Feb-17-02 08:41 AM
i have the iceman also. i to opened up the black thingys overe the air dams in the bumper. yuo can even see the filter! for some reason i llike that! }>
i think performance wise the iceman would be better. the theory is that the plastic is made of some kind of stuff (forget the tech name) that doesnt heat up, thus keeping the air cool. and we all know we need cool air to make the most BANG! i have mine in blue , but they have other colors (black). the aem is aluminum and it looks nice but im not going to drive mr car around with the hood up (or off!) for everyone tro see.. i wanted the best one with the best performance and "in theory" the iceman is better.
by the by, my iceman curves right down into the open on the bumper. (forced ram!) }>

Its like the old question "ford or chevy?" This is a argument that will go down until the end of time. Both do equal performance.

Haha so should my intercooler piping should be plastic so it doesn't heat up in the engine bay? Trust me coldair, charged coldair, either way you stick it it'll get to the TB cooler.

All things considered, they're probably the same. Two benefits of the Iceman make it a no-brainer winner for me tho: 1) The NOS injection port option. 2) The sound it makes is AWESOME, super vicious and deep. Nothing compares. I'm turbod and I still miss my iceman.

14953, plastic vs metal Posted by RSin oRACLe, Feb-26-02 05:58 AM
guys think about this for a few minutes here .. plastic heats up hella faster than metal .. and also if u heat plastic .. it loses integrity where as metal does also but not at the temps your engine makes.. also the trans makes tons of heat .. why would u want to suck air up from over there ? finally the powder coating in the aem intake retards heat .. id say go with the aem ...

I agree with oracle. Plastic has a lower specific heat level and is also less dense than metal, i.e. aluminum. Also like he said, the coating helps resist heat as well. I have the grey AEM and even after driving around it's a little warm but not burning hot. And i live in florida too.
