14463, Flywheel gaurd help please........ Posted by Semperboost, Feb-10-02 02:13 PM
SO I'm checking to see where I'm getting this sludge from around my tranny from and I think I may have found the place. When I had my clutch replaced a couple years ago at the dealer they forgot (asses) to put the lower splash gaurd on tranny. Its a piece of metal that covers I think the flywheel which is right next to the center crossmember bar. When I had my new clutch put in the mech said that it woulnd't affect anything cuz the cross member bar (the bar that goes from the front to middle) would sorta protect it. Anyone if that is a vital part of the drivetrain assembly. I mean I can stick my hand up in there and feel some teeth of something, maybe the flywheel or something. So I'm thinking It could be A)My oil pan gasket (near the part that goes over the bar) is leaking onto the flywheel and spinning that sludge around OR B) some tranny fluid is leaking somewhere landing on the flywheel and splashing it around. Thanks folks..really thanks.

when you slip the clutch, dust comes out of it (just like your brakes ) that gaurd keeps most all of the dust in yoru bell housing, while stil venting air to your clutch. the sludge is more than likely clutch dust and road water.
A.D.P. bring it on............

Nah..I think it's more than that. I saw actually fluid (probably tranny) drippping of the bell housing - i know something is leaking inside of there. Does tranny fluid ever come near the clutch assembly/ flywheel? THanks

The only thing that could come from inside where the clutch and flex plate are would be oil from a leaking main seal around the crank. Over time, the clutch would glaze and burn up. Might wanna check that out :D

That could be it...how would i check for that?..Get under the car and rev it up or something? I forgot to put a new rear main seal in when i got the new clutch in. Check it out tho - when I had my car in for the ball joint recall the dealer put in FOR FREE a quart of M/T fluid. So that musta mean that they had to at least look at the fluid and know what it was. I gotta find out where the that damn leak is comming from
