14412, headers question Posted by Green_Eclipse_RS, Feb-09-02 05:35 PM
what is the difference between ceramic and stainless headers? I found some headers made by HP racing for 190 dollars should I buy them or go with something like airmass or greddy?

normally with any kind of hedder the difference between the are they way they are designed to flow or the diameter of the pipes... i dunno what works best on these cars.. since i don't have one yet. but from past v8 expeirence.. you get what you pay for

Ceramic coatings help with exhaust flow. They keep the heat in the tubing so the gas travels faster. Also keeps heat from the engine bay and lets your engine bay, and enginebe just a little cooler.

i'm surprised there havent been people on here telling you not to get them already. on our cars headers really dont do much. dyno tested 1 peak hp. they do give you some torque. if you are planning on getting a turbo in the future, then they are a total waste of money. but if you are going all motor, which at the moment doesnt really work, then you will need every hp you can get. if you want to know about all motor, then ask fast420a or vx100

my car was dyno'd w/ an aem cai, greddy 4-1 headers, and full greddy sp exhaust. 127 at the wheels. not sure which part did what, but that's just to give you an idea.

i agree with josh. dont get the headers, they fak up your launch, too btw...they only help you barely at the top of each gear when running. Thats why I am not going to buy headers. My exhaust slowed my launch down enough, I cant afford that, since its my real strongpoint or only chance at running against others out there on the track/street whatever. just my advice.

Brospeed headers (a subsidiary of Bosal USA, Inc.) has them in 4-2-1
i think chikara also does.

they didn't fuck up my launch, taking off from say 55+, you can feel those pipes working, other than that, complete waste of 400 dollars. The greddy header turns ugly from dirt oil whatever else too, still looks better than that heat shield

i think headers sucked the big dick! tremendous waste of money. maybe if you're into nitrous is a help, but for power gains i felt only a slight difference meaning 2-5hp gain. and that was with a pacesetter ceramic coating. i was like fuck this and i went turbo kit when i got beat by an MX-6 stock. i think anyone with a non-turbo is missing out on our 420A capability.
