14292, B&M Short Shifter Review
Posted by fasterGS, Feb-08-02 07:36 AM
I got my shifter today and thought I would let you all know how I like it. Very simple to install, comes with complete directions. Overall took me about an hour, id say that would be the longest it COULD take lol. I chose to shorten the throw 50% and I could definetely tell the difference. Shifts were not so sloppy, but it did seem to take a little more effort to get it into the correct gear. Have to get used to that I guess. The overall height of the shifter is just a little bit shorter. I like it, but if you are in the market for one I would suggest going with a cheaper one. The concept is very simple and not worth $150 IMO. I got my Energy Suspension motor mounts today also so i will be posting soon about those.

Yes the shifter is more notchier but you'll get use to it. The throws are real shortgoing into gears and in neutral. Install the bushings and it'll even feel better. Your shifter will sound more connected and it'll make a nice 'cluck'...i got my B&M used for $50 so I got hooked up.

Yeah the symborski kit is on its way as we speak, so it will be a good test to see what kind of difference they make!

Your shifter sits on a plate which sits on rubber bushings which sits on your car. The bushings from Energy Suspension costs $11 and they improve the feel of your shifter.

I ordered my bushings from Machv.com. Its called the symborski kit, they are metal bushings and a metal sleeve. Ive heard great things about it but it is about 40 bucks. Depends on what you want, the metal ones will make it stiffer yet, but im sure either will improve upon the crappy ones in there now.

Or you can go with solid bushings http://www.machv.com/symshifkit1.html

I also have the B&M. I love it. I also noticed that it took a little more effort at first but its something you get used to. It took me about 20minutes to install it but ive done one before in a friends car. Its awesome.

The Stillen short throw shifter is a good buy, they are down to 99 bucks right now... Easy install, short shifts, just throwing everyone another option...
