I am almost positive you can, Kyle. It's just always something all the 4g63 guys recommend. Moreover, there's only two wires that run from the probe so if the hookups don't mate exactly right...I'm sure you'll be able to solder with a little cut and snip. But they're just probes on each end, so I'm sure it'll be cool.

but there conversation about tappin cyl 1 3 inches away is wrong for us, right? we need to tap cyl 4 x inches away from head?
fill me in, i mihg tbe confused, or right on top. sumthin to do with intake airflow and heat capability??

Back in the day when people blew their engines more often, it was generally accepted that the #4 cylinder was the hottest and probably most susceptible to detonation. That would be the cylinder closest to the driver's side. That's why we at 2GNT all recommend your probe to be tapped on that runner.
Applying that same approach to any other engine would be unwise since all engines are different. Moreover, the 4g63's hot spot may very well be different than our own.

Yes you can use the Westach probe, I do. The ends need to be cut so you put bare wire into the magic box :-) It's a nice set up, the Westach probe reachs nice and fast.
Yah a couple inches from the head and in the #4 runner. Should be the hottest due to EGR and coolant flow.

I use that setup as well. No problems. But, as far as EGT placement, I got some advice from a friend. I didn't use it, b/c he told me too late, but it makes sense. Put the EGT where the runners come together. That way, if one cylinder is going lean, you will get a slight difference. If you just tap one runner as I did (and as suggested above), you'll never know if one of the other 3 cylinders is running lean. Sounded like a good idea to me.

Problem with that is exhaust gas will cool significantly by the time you hit the collector and at that point it's too late to tell there's a problem and and if one cylander is running too hot one cool the average temp will be lower so, I say best bet is tap the hottest runner, next best is 4 EGTs
