okay, at 30,000 i got the gear oil changed in my tranny at some at this fly by night oil change place. Since then when my car starts after sitting a long time (overnight) my car shifts fine into first but when I go to second I have to play with it to get to go in gear. the problem only happens when its cold, once it warms up it is fine. At first I thought maybe it would go away once the oil breaks down some. But now at 31,000 I have heard my car making a loud rasping cound a couple of times when my car is in nuetral, once i push down the clutch or go back in gear it stops. I have only heard it twice over a period of two weeks. I am wondering if this is going to give trouble soon. I never had any trouble with the car at all before this (should have kept the old oil in)! Any ideas as to what this might be? tia.

If they didn't put the tranny fluid designed for our tranny with synchros then they probably fucked your tranny. There is a certain Mopar tranny fluid you are supposed to use and some people use Synchroshift but either way, anything else and it's ruined.

dood i have the same exact problem. been like that since august of 2001, last summer.

I'm clueless myself. Its embarrasing actually. WHen the car is cold and people walk by they look at me after i start it. So like a dumbass I just put the clutch in to make the noise go away then drive off when they walk away far enuff hahaha no kiddin.

I think its coincidental about the fluid tho. My problem started a mere 2 weeks BEFORE I had the tranny serviced. The whole reason why I had the service changed on my tranny fluid was in hopes of making the noise go away. oh well.

Dood if u find out whats wrong with ur car., ie., take it into a tranny shop, by all means let me know what the hell it is, cause im hella worried myself!

man can i jion that club too1 mine makes that same noise sometimes when it is cold also. i just had a new tranny put in in the summer. i was told it should run automatic transmission fluid cause our gears are so fragil. so i ask the mitsu place around here and they said the same thing. but mine is kind of hard to go in second when i first start out but as the car gets warmer the shifting is great. i think i need ot change my gear oil cuase im guessing that overnite all the oil is leakin down to the bottom and is dry in the gears and is waiting to get splashed back on them or something. but if the noise is stopping when you push your clutch in it could be a clutch problem? mayb i dunno. havent heard the noise in a while.
