okay i've noticed this for a while and i finally looked to see where it was coming from. there is oil leaking from my tranny, like 1 or 2 drops a night. it is coming from where the drive shaft goes into the tranny. i believe the 2 brown skirtseals are no good. how easy is it to replace these, does anyone know if i have to take the entire tranny apart, or just take the drive shafts out? it appears that these seals just press in from the outside. anyone else have this problem should i just not worry about it. oh ya it's a 95 manual

I think your talking about the diffential housing. I'm not sure if the location of the housing is different from a MT to a AT. Most likely, it is the gasket leaking. That's what mine is, I just put some of that gasket sealer around the outer gasket, and it seems like it fixed it. We'll see though!!!!!!!

Take out the lateral control arm bolt from the frame, disconnect the sway bay link, and drop the rear control arm (2 bolts in the frame). Swing the whole assembly out and pull the axle out. You may have to pry gently on it to get it to pop out of the tranny. Have a catch pan ready. Once the axle is out, pop out the old seal with a screwdriver, and put the new seal in. If you don't have a seal driver, use a hammer and a block of wood. Go slowly and make sure the seal stays square to the tranny. The seal should be flush with the tranny case when it's all the way in. Once it's all back together, don't forget to top off the tranny fluid. Nothin' to it. :-)

cool cool, i'ma gonna do it this weekend, man that shit sucks it's all leaking and been doing it for a while, you would think that a seal in that area would be a little more durable.

It may also be engine oil leaking and running down to the axle. Thats exactly what mine was doing and I thought it was the tranny leaking.

i was told that the tranny was supposed to leak a little bit. to keep the seals lubicated so they wouldnt crack or anything like that. but it could be time to change them out. also your head gasket could be leaking right above your tranny. mine was leaking in the back corner right over the tranny where most of them will leak due to a seal not being around where one of the bolts go. if it is the head when you get your new gasket make sure it has the little seal around that hole. hard to explain but could easyliy be shown. just my .02 , well from experience.

i'm pretty sure it is from the tranny, i smelled it and it smells like the putrid mitsubishi tranny fluid, not regular oil smell. but i'll check it anyways!
