1394, My car hesitates Posted by 95GST, Apr-30-01 11:42 AM
This happens mostly in the morning or when I first go into drive. My car hesitates for a sec, then it picks up and runs fine. I let the car run for 5 minutes in the morning and it still does it??? The mech at Mitsubishi while working on the recall says that I may need to change my fuel filter. Im runnin on 70k now and I dont remember ever changing it. Duh! I should change it any ways. Just wanted to know whether that will make a difference and what brand I should get and where. Thanks!

Cool...looks like I have another project to work on. How much would it cost if the dealer would replace the fuel filter? Is it easy enough that I can do it myself. mines is on the firewall.

70k on a fuel filter? No! that could easily be your problem, they should be chnaged every 30k. But a tune up is also a good idea. Plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter. at 70k the injectors could use a good cleaning I'm sure, run some cleaner through unless you want to send them away to be cleaned and balanced($100)

I posted a message identical to this one a few months back, I took it in to the dealer at 63k miles and changed my fuel filter and transmission fluid, fixed the problem.

How much did it cost you? Can I change out the filter myself?

I had a hesitation in mine too. Just a quick one when I first went to drive. Any how I changed the fuel filter and the sparkplugs and the problem is gone! Fuel filter is $25 from autozone and $20 from Discount Auto Parts. It was fairly easy to change other than all the fuel that you end up wearing and breathing! LOL! Not bad though!
Supposed to change the fuel filter every 10K miles. I change it every 3rd oil change!

So, the install is easy? Unplug the old one and plug in the new one? plug n play? Is it that easy? No catch or warnings?

Well I don't know if I would go as far as "Plug and Play" but it was not that hard. Like I said the worst part was the gas that dumps all over you. :( But it isn't really that bad. Just make sure you use a line wrench, make sure you un hook the lines BEFORE you unbolt the bracket from the car, and lastly make sure you use NEW copper gaskets (they look like thin washers).

Ok, i have a 95 GS and my car has done the same thing..and its costing me 1300 dollars to fix it..here is what is wrong...the linear control motor is shot, the secondary air valve is dead, the aspirator valve is shot, and some wiring harness need to be replaced, and there is an upgrade that comes along with the wiring harness from Mitsubishi. I was told that it was my fuel pump and my plugs, the usuall tune up, but its not. Go to a shop and let them check over your car, just to be safe.
