138140, New head bolts and 2.4L head bolts

I'm in the process of redoing the head and head gasket on my Eclipse. I have all the parts I need and got them through Modern Performance. I got the head bolts which where bolts for the 2.4L. I was under the understanding that the heads for the 2.4 and 2.0 is nearly the same and the head bolts I got were listed under the 1g Neon. Well the bolts I got are all the same where as the ones I took out were shorter in the 4 corners. So I don't have those shorter ones. Is that a big deal? I know there is talk about cutting a few threads off the corner bolts is this because of these bolts being longer than the short ones that came off the Eclipse from the factory? Any help and possibly direction on where to get head bolts if I have the wrong ones. Thanks in advance.

BTW the factory bolts that came off the Eclipse that were shorter in the 4 corners were from a 95 Eclipse RS. I know things on the 95s were weird. Is it possible that the after 95 they were all one length like the new bolts I got?

No, you need to get the correct bolts. All 420a Eclipses came with the same headbolts.

Well I guess the 10 from a 2.4L must be different. Might you be able to direct me to where I can get some head bolts without getting screwed by the dealership? Or maybe someone might help in getting me the part numbers for the 2 size bolts? Thanks in advance.

Well...if you want OEM bolts, you're looking at just under 7 bucks a bolt...and you need 10 of them. I don't have the part numbers for them however. I wasn't able to find a clear cut answer through CAPS.

I did a quick search on Rockauto and came up with these results...

Wow that's a pretty good price for bolts and all look correct. Guess I should have figured Rock Auto would have em. Thanks Cas.

I think the old saying people have had around here is that the back corner on the drivers side is where the shorter 'back corner' bolt is said to bottom out...and be a bit leaky back there. So they cut a few threads off that bolt (like you stated above). I never bothered with this and installed all the headbolts as recommended in the overhaul manual. I've yet to have a single issue in regards to this talk over the past 7-8 years the car has been running.

Yeah it wasn't until I did research that I found something about cutting a few threads off the bolts. This is just going to be an NA daily beater so I doubt I'll mess with cutting threads as well.

Yes the heads of 2.0 and 2.4s are essentially the same when bolting up, but the issue is that the 2.4 block is different, which is what matters since that is where the bolts thread into. So buying 2.4L head bolts will never work in a 2.0 block regardless of year.
