137843, Injector O-Ring Woes Posted by Tired2, Apr-16-13 07:44 AM
Hi,
I had a bad injector (coil grounded to the case)...
It was a Yellow top, which I believe to be a 510CC injector from an EVOII or some such thing. I could not find a replacement anywhere, but I found a deal on some EVOIII 560cc pink top injectors.
I got this car with some mods already done, so I'm not 100% sure it is a stock fuel rail, but it bolts right up in the factory 420A holes, so I assume it is. It is a '97 car, and it has a feed and return line.
I am having trouble with the (upper) O-rings. I got some brand new 420A Fel-Pro O-Rings, that look pretty much identical in size to the ones I pulled off, but I can't get them to go into the fuel rail with the injectors. I've lubed them up and I have the rail off, but when I push them in while spinning them, etc, the injector wants to slide in without the ring, and it will not go down in the flared section of the fuel rail.
I can get some pics tonight if it will help, but I'm curious if anyone else has problems with these things, or if I'm using something incompatible. They are 4g63/64 injectors I believe, but nobody else seems to have problems. The sizes look identical to the ones I took off, the O-Rings are just too damn big to fit.

With certain types of injectors I have had issues with the Orings wanting to move out of place when installing them. I have never tried EVO injectors but I had issues with RC injectors. Try finding some smaller oring if you cant get the stock ones to seat

Any idea where to get them? The typical Giant O-Ring kits do not have o-rings that are "plump" enough.
AutoZone has a kit of generic stuff I'll try, but if anyone has a better selection, I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks.

I strongly suspect that you are having the problem that you would have for 4G63 injectors. You may just need to try harder, lol. Sometimes they can be a bitch; http://www.2gnt.com/index.php?d=4g63_450cc_Injectors_in_a_2GNT

Thank you for posting the write-up.
I guess I can try with a screwdriver... I was using a plastic knife to spare the o-rings. I just need to build a jig to push on the injector better than I can with my bare or gloved hand. My palm is still sore from pushing on them from a week ago. I bet a socket, a piece of wood, and some duct tape will work.

Good source for o-rings, tips, filters, etc.

Thanks for the information guys.
With renewed faith, and the realization that I could not really hurt the O-rings, I was able to push them in with a screw driver and got them to seal properly. I avoided that before to keep from slicing them up, but if it was push on them with a screwdriver or not use them at all, I went for the screwdriver, and it worked out okay.
The rail would have slid directly in from the battery side with the injectors in, but I managed to get it down from the other side since my rail had the top metal brackets ground off.
Anyway, hopefully I'll have the car on the road soon.
Thanks.
