137586, Temperature sensor Posted by spikekautz, Dec-06-12 07:41 PM
I had a question regarding the temperature sensor in my eclipse, I noticed that there looks two things that look like temp sensors installed in the thermostat housing. The main diference is size, one being larger than the other and I'm looking to install an aftermarket water temp gauge as the stock one failed, and was thinking about putting it into the stock sensor location but seeing two threw me off, I was thinking maybe there's one for the gauge and one for the ecu but wasn't sure, any help would be great.

The smaller on is for your gauge and the larger one is for information to the ECU. You cannot switchout the larger one. If you try to use the smaller hole, the gauge on the cluster will not work

Thanks, that's what I really wanted to find out but pulling the gauge sender really doesn't matter for me, my temp gauge fried the other day.

Just buy a used cluster on ebay and change out the gauge. It's easy to take out the cluster.

My sender started leaking coolant from the connector. Go figure.

We already specified which sender was for the gauge cluster.
