Hey, So in a few weeks I will be getting student loan money and I will be rebuilding my motor for transportation.. Anyway, I plan on using JE 10.5:1 compression pistons for now, until I turbo it a little later. My question is, since the engine will be a stock build besides ARP headstuds, Cometic headgasket, and forged rods and pistons (10.5:1 compression).. Will I need to upgrade any fuel components or retune at this compression?

I wouldn't put the money out for those pistons if your going turbo soon anyway but you would have to run high quality gas and you might get away with that compression. You only need more fuel when you have more air. Your just compressing what air and fuel you have more.

You can run 10.5:1 just use 91 octane or higher. There are plenty guys running high compression on boost. You can still make good power with 93 with 10.5:1.

There was a time when rising rate regulators where king and 8.8:1 pistons where the boss. Now, 10.5:1 is just as safe as 8.8:1 was back in the day with MS or PF. Only thing that is required now is for people to educate themselves about it, make what you will of it. If nobody pushed the envelope and played it safe we would still live in Europe and the world would be flat.

Yea I hear you but how it sounds he is a college student just like my self and for college you want a reliable car for for a daily and not something you have to take and get tuned and all. For racing or a weekend warrior type of a deal then yea high comp turbo but for a daily?

Reliable? Its called throttle modulation. A car is reliable as you build it and drive it. You want 99% reliable then don't mod a car. I get what you mean but its just like nitrous. Stay off the throttle and you will have the reliability of a N/A 2gnt.

Yea I know. It's sometimes hard to keep throttle control when you have that power with the push of your foot haha. But a build motor is a reliable motor.

As he said its safe with megasquirt or port fueler. So yes so tuning will be needed. Also how will you drive. Do you get in to it or just cruise around?

I understand that part. I should have been more clear.. I know I will need MS for 10.5:1 compression and turbo, BUT will I need to tune the car on 10.5:1 without the turbo?.. The bump in compression will be the only modification done for awhile.
