Now lets say I got a turbo kit, and ran it at 8 psi on a stock motor with a good tune and made 215whp. Then I decided to get a highly ported head with stage 2 cams... Can I add this with a stock bottom end since I am not cranking up the boost?

I understand that. I was just wandering since I would be making more power than 215whp on the stock bottom end, could it handle the added power?

As long as its tuned right and has oil pressure, the stock bottom end can take some abuse. You will still be alright after head work. Id consider the Crower 2 Turbo grind cam, as with a standard Crower 2 its designed to overlap to pull in as much air as possible, and with a turbo you will be pushing a lot of that air into the cylinder and out the exhaust valve.

Parts are generally not rated by psi as much by horsepower/tq (and that's a rather loose rating because of the many variables in rating parts). What I am trying to say is you are still adding power and being turbocharged would be adding it at a more rapid rate with mods. With the being said, I would worry about the rods and the clutch with that kind of power.

At 8 psi I blew my ring landings on stock pistons at 130,xxx. Boosting for about 15,xxx. Those will more than likely be what gives if anything.

Ok, Thanks guys. I was wandering about the results with adding power though bolt ons, without uping the boost, on a stock bottom end. So.. pretty much forge the pistons and rods.

Im still on my stock bottom end on 10psi daily with a pretty big port job and I could definitely feel a difference after porting the head as well as a larger throttle body. I didnt dyno though.

Hey Gruff, How many miles did you have on the motor when you went turbo, and how long have you been turboed?

Well when I got my car I rebuilt the engine with all stock internals with race bearings and Turbo rings and arp headstuds. At around 20k miles I put the Turbo on and I been Turbod for the past 4 years on the same setup.

Its not a Hahn I pieced it together.

So is turboing a stock setup with 155k at about 6-7psi a bad idea?

Is this your daily driver?

Do a compression test. If your motor is in good shape then you should be good

Stock motor on 7-8psi, as long as you have adequate fueling, is perfectly fine.

Yes it is my DD. But i really dont push my car at all during daily op. Usually keep the shifts under 3k unless im getting on a ramp for the freeway; then i bilieve it is safe to say everyone feels the temptation to go WOT :P
