13665, NEED HELP FAST!!!! S-AFC install situation....PLEASE Posted by tim97rs, Feb-03-02 01:43 PM
Okay, enough grovoling.
i hooked up my S-AFC according to Wyatts install how-to, everything seems to work except the RPM connection. i have the green wire from the AFC spliced into the white wire on the lower bundle which buy all accounts is the RPM signal wire. When i have the green wire connected, no RPMs on the AFC or the dash. Unhook the green wire and i have RPM signal to the dash! what gives? did i wire something wrong? the origional instructions say to ground the brown wire closest to the ECU and the black wire down from that about a centemeter. i have it more like 2 inches. would that make a difference? i also have the connections soldered, and not male/female connectors. anything there?
thanks guys..

I'll have to go over it again, it's been about a year since I've installed the thing...
but you have to get that ground wire hooked up exactly as the instructions say, or as close as possible as the instructions point out. This is important, I forget the exact electrical reason why, but it is important.
Try that first, and go over each wire, each connection very slowly and carefully (I messed it up the first time too), and make sure the connections are done to the proper wire and put on solidly. I messed up one of the wire connections too (it caused my check engine light). You could have a loose wire connection somewhere.
Just go over it slowly and carefully, don't rush the job.

hey dude, i just put mine in a month ago about.. the green wire from the afc goes to the totally white wire on the lower part of the ecu. since this is what you did did you tap the white wire or did you cut it and connect it like that? you are sopose to tap the wire only... i remember once when i tried messing around and disconnected my rpm wire and my rpm gauge inside did not work! and when i reconnected it back its all good... so you should be hooking up the correct wire... just make sure your setting are also correct before you start the car up. go every each wire to make sure its connected correct... cool Michael 99gs- hrc stage 2

Yeah redo the ground I believe it has to do with impedance or something along the wire...
Do you have EGT and A/F meter?

well, i redid the ground and still have a 61 code. i thought i got rid of it after the ground when i undid the - cable for about 20min, then turned her on and nothing but a 12 code, Ran it a bit then the next time i turned her on, 61 code. yea, i have both EGT and digital A/F meter, you think it might have to do with the numbers on the AFC? i havent really tuned it yet...so...?
