13652, running lean???? Posted by bones52999, Feb-03-02 11:40 AM
I asked this on asog but no one had any ideas.
A couple weeks ago my I4 Avenger started having trouble starting and at WOT it doesn't accelarate very well like it's running lean. I first thought it might be the fuel filter but I replaced it and it didn't fix the problem. When I push more Ohms(with a resistor) through the Coolant Temp Sensor(Which makes the car think it's colder than it is) it accelarates fine and starts relatively well. The problem with this solution is that sensor must control the radiator fans because my fans don't turn on and the engine starts to get hot. So I thought it was that sensor that was bad but I replaced it and it still did the the same thing. I then replaced the MAP sensor hoping that was the problem but no luck. I was thinking about the TPS next but I don't want to keep shelling out $50 for sensors that aren't bad. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Spark plugs and plug wires? Have you tried that? I was running lean at one time and the car felt really slugish under WOT. I replaced those and now the car runs fine.
