So, long story short is that my fuel pump went and I figured I'd get the Walbro 190 since I plan on doing a build here shortly. I have a 95 Talon ESi w/ basic bolt-ons, and everything else stock.

My problem is that it runs really REALLY rich. I'm sure you guys could have guessed. I did some reading and found somewhere that without rewiring, the 190 doesnt flow that much more than stock. Anyways, I need some opinions. I was thinking of getting an AFPR but I am unsure how much work it takes to install (only 21 still learning how to work on cars) or just run rich until I rebuild.

What's really rich? How are you monitoring AFR's? Do you have a wideband o2?

I don't have a wideband but the smell of fuel is really great. It doesn't matter if its on the highway or city but If I drive it hard it really wreaks of fuel. Somehow it doesn't seem like gas mileage has been greatly affected. I'm still tracking/monitoring the miles and gauge. There shouldn't be a leak in the line because I had it replaced about a move ago but ill take a look and inspect it to make sure.

Are you sure everything is hooked up properly? A double check for kinks and all connections may be your friend in this situation.

Everything appears to be running normal upon checking it.

*On a side note my coolant gauge is on, The previous owner said she had a mechanic work on the head and replaced it with a Neon head. She said that its just a dummy gauge as he couldnt get it to come off. Not sure if thatll affect anything. I believe I read somewhere if the coolant sensor has gone bad itll flood with fuel when attempting to start.

Try renting a wideband at the local autoparts store and see what readings you get. When i had my stock fpr it always smelt really rich when just idling i was at 14.7afr

Funny that you suggested that, I was just about to head to Advance Auto right now. Im sure they'll have one to rent there. Ill get back with my readings as soon as I get a chance. It seems to idle fine. Atleast I dont really smell fuel then.

Also, I got about 100 miles from a full tank down to the 3/4's mark. It was a mix of highway and city driving.

Advance doesnt rent out widebands. The guy didnt even have any idea what I was talking about. Ill try a couple other part stores tomorrow.

i highly doubt you'll find a part store that will rent out a wideband 02 sensor. But I know I'm running a Wally 190, and even before I switched to MS my car never ran rich. So I doubt it's the fuel pump causing you to run rich. Then again, I have a 95 so I don't know if my factory FPR is different.

I too have a 95. It might be a coincidence that I have a faulty sensor/sensors. I'm showing 0 codes. I had a IAC code that showed then it went away and never came back.

Just wondering, when you installed the new pump did you reset the ECU? AFAIK you will probably need to hook up a wideband 02 to get the most accurate reading of A/F or a flashy light gauge but those really arent worth it. (I have one that hasnt been installed yet, thanks to my cousin for my xmas last year as a gag gift.)

Edit: Also what color is your exhaust? Do you have a 5speed or auto? I believe our tank is 17 gallons which means a 1/4 tank is 4.25 your driving a 100 miles works out to about ~23 mpg seems semi-reasonable with some bolt ons depending what they are. I know headers caused mine to take a hit.

I didn't reset the ECU. You do this by disconnecting the battery correct? If so, for how long? I've had to disconnect the battery a few times when installing the new ignition coil and spark plug wires. I have an auto tranny :( Basic bolt ins: CAI, 2.5'' catback, hi-flow cat, and aftermarket headers.

Correct if the ECT is shot it might flood cylinders w/ fuel. However I am confused by what you are saying about your coolant gauge are you saying you have an aftermarket one?

I meant to say I have a coolant light illuminating on my dash. I realized I worded that pretty off for what I meant.

Have you checked what codes is the car throwing?

Its throwing off zero codes as of yesterday. Ill check again when I get off work.

Also in the middle of doing my radiator flush tonight I noticed my vehicle idled like it normally does <1100rpm> but when I put it in reverse it dropped down to about 500 and sounded like it wanted to stall. It sputtered a bit but then went back up to 1100. Then when I put it in park it reved up to 2000rpm. Does this sound like any sensor would do this?

You may need to burp your coolant.

I was in the middle of doing that but I had to get ready for work... damn 3rd shift. Anyways ill finish that tomorrow. I didn't literally mean in the middle of the radiator flush but I'll burp it to make sure to make sure I'm full.
