13589, motor mounts Posted by 1TuffRS, Feb-02-02 09:31 AM
I know, I know. I tried to use the search function but its not working for some reason, keeps timing out. But anyway, where can I get the motor mounts from. I went to summit racing and found a set, but Im not sure if those are for our cars or the turbos. Can you guys give me a part number.

if you look real close you could see the front one, but there is no way you will see the back one, oh yea that ones a pain to get on, if you need any help just ask. they are worth it though

that says it is only for the manual tranny. Does anyone make one for the automatic?

i'm not sure about the a/t thing, but yea the car feels tighter. not as mushy. when the clutch engages the motor turns then the wheels turn, but with the mounts the clutch grabs then straight to the wheels. shifts are quicker. took a little while to get use to the clutch just because its more direct(grabby) to the wheels. also something i didnt expect was that it made the suspension do its job a little better. i guess because you dont have the motor bouncing around so much. if you feel confident doing stuff to your car its not that hard, just some tough-to-get-off nuts. but if your a novice like i was and still kind of am just jump into it, find someone to help you, and don't stop till its done. if you have questions email me at joshdunn@mac.com. i dont check it alot but i will try :)

I took out the battery (and tray) and washer fluid container to get to the rear mount. On the rear mount, you don't need to take the actual mount out, just the bracket that goes over the mount (you'll see what I am talking about).

And hey how much difference you get out of those inserts?

Work is killing me! :)

I haven't really had any wheel hop issues since I put them in, but I haven't really taken the car for a GOOD spin since I put them in either. But, for $19.95 (and a hour or two to put them in)...
Looking at my receipt from Summit, I put in part number ENS-5-1103R.

I dont think those are the right mounts.
They are the same part number as an AWD eclipse/talon. So the means to me that they go on the Turbo engine setup and shouldnt fit our NT application. I just called Energy suspension and they told me that they dont have any other inserts for an eclipse so if those are indeed the Turbo inserts you may need to send them back. I would like to know if they work cause im in need of a set. I hop all over. If they arent the right ones does anyone know where to get the right ones?

well joshacu has energy motor mounts so they have to make them for the NT application

ALOT of people on here have the motor mounts so I know they make 'em, I'm just not sure that the part number there is the right ones. I hope though, cuz I've ordered 'em. :P

I think that is the right part number, i ordered a set too, it was for the front and rear, right? I have my intake manifold and throttle body off right now for porting and boring n crap, i guess i can get to that rear one easier now in the downtime.

Here's the scoop: I just looked up in CAPS (Mitsubishi Computerized Parts Lookup system), and the mounts themselves for the 420a and the 4G63 are the same (different places, but the same mounts). Hope this clears things up. -=B-=

i got mine from modacar.com. so if all else fails call them, tell them what you have and they will send you the right ones. do you have them already? if so try out the front one, it is easy to get to. if that one fits chances are the back one will also...............
ok i'm bored so here is a write up, tuffrs i bet you can figure this out but if others are reading or you need a little extra help, here you go. the front one is easy, all you need is a socket wrench, and a cresent or something like that to keep stuff from turning on nut and bolt combos. i think the size is somewhere around 10mm, throughout the whole thing the sizes go from 10-14, so just get out those and your set. look down into the engine bay, the front mount is just to the right of center, inbetween the headers and the radiator. you can get to it alot better from under the car, but i never used jackstands, so you prob wont need them. but if you have them it would prob help. first there is a nut and bolt "pin" that goes through the front motor mount. take that out. that little f--king thing is on tight, the only way i got it off was by attaching a socket wrench to the right side of it, laying down in front of the car and kicking it off. you might have an easier time than i. once its loose take it out the rest of the way. now if you look the motor mount is bolted to a main chassis peice that runs up under the motor. the bolts come up from then underside of that chassis peice. you can get to those bolts through two small holes on the bottom. you will need an extention, or maybe just a long socket. loosen those the the whole mount will slide out (make note which way is front and back). you may need to wiggle it some but its free. the kit, energy suspension, comes with a total of 6 peices. 2 washers and 4 molded plastics peices. for the front mount you need both washers and the inserts that are smaller (i.e. less polyeurethane), push the inserts into the spaces in the motor mount and put the washers on either side. put it back in place. it will be snugg, but as long as it fit in there without alot of play your good. put all the bolts and stuff back in. it doesnt matter which you do first. i think i put the 2 that hold it to the chassis in first then the "set pin". i'm not sure about torque specs but seeing as how i had to kick it off i dont thing you are going to hurt anything. i tightend mine up until i almost crapped my pants. (you may want to drive it around just in case, because if its too rough for you now it will only get worse with the back one installed)(or maybe you dont have any patients like me)
now the back one. harder all around, but nothing you cant handle. if you have it take out the strutbar. intake, battery, plastic tray and metal tray (4 bolts), also take out the washer fluid resovior (haha i cant spell that), and i unbolted my brake fluid bucket thing but you prob wont have to do that. no you can see it. :) stick your head in there with a flashlight if need be and look around. the back mount is pretty much under the throttle body. this mount is also connected to a chassis member. then there is the same type center pin that holds it to a bracket that bolts to either the trans or the motor, i dont remeber which. on this mount we arent going to take out the mount itself but the bracket that it attached to the motor (i'm just going to call it that, if i'm wrong it doesnt matter any way). the only thing you have to undo are 4 bolts. the one set pin, and if you look on the bracket there are 3 bolts in it. first undo the pin, if you have a breaker bar you may want to try that, i didnt have one so it took a little while so stop the bleeding:( once you have that off you need to ge the other 3 bolts out. these are tight as a mofo. so find someone big and tell him to do it. if your big then you can skip that step. i'm not big at all but i managed to get one of them, my dad got the others. you will need an extender to get to these too, but not to long or you will be up into the t/b and intake man. get those out. take the bracket out then slip in the 2 remaining inserts, one on either side. make sure they are in there. then put the bracket back on (this will also be a snugg fit). put the pin in place, but i wouldnt tighten it just yet. make sure the 3 bolts that hold the bracket to the motor line up, get them started, then tighten everything back up. make sure its tight again because once you put all the other stuff back in on top of it you wont want to get in there again. put you car back together. and your done. *whew* no you can go wipe yourself :)

WHAAAAAAAAAA?!?!?!?!? You gotta be kidding me, I went to do my rear mount today (did the front in 5 mins flat, literally). Anyway I had the battery, tray, intake, everything out, I loosened the 3 bolts, and started to loosen the main one going through the mount and it was being a bitch, would budge. Finally got it moving a little and though maybe I needed to support the engine in some way and REINSTALLED EVERYTHING! WHY OH WHY DID I DO THAT?!?!? Man, now I gotta do it all over again tomorrow. Oh and everytime I read about this, people say it's difficult and takes like 1-2 hours, it didn't take me 45 mins to do everything I did (remove all those parts and then reinstall them like an idiot), all I needed to do was remove that last bolt (what another 2 mins?)and reinstall everything. Oy.

Alex how did you get the orange lens out for the turn signal?
|
13611, RE: motor mounts Posted by damasta, Feb-06-02 02:47 PM
Sweet sugar tits, I got my insert from Dynamic Autosports in Lake Forest (Socal) and they only cost me $15 bones, haha, anyway. I got the front one in, went to do the rear, had the battery out and all sorts o shit and couldn't get the damn mother off. I need a bendy socket thingy.
Oh and ecl98pse, I used a dremel to cut out the blinker part of the headlight, from the back of course, then smashed the orange lens up, took it out, and used a hot glue gun to glue and reseal it. You should probably use some kind of silicone but so far the hot glue hasn't failed.
