135747, To Boost or not to Boost. Posted by Fotowntalon, Jan-11-12 08:24 AM
I have always wanted to boost my car... well always half the time wanted to boost my car. The other half of the time, I have loved going down the NA path and making a decent name for myself. Now though it is time for the big rebuild, and my mind is racing back in forth and changing everyday. While an NA beast would be amazing and almost one of a kind, at the end of the day for all the money and time spent I may possibly break barely into the 13's, it just doesnt feel that great. Or I could rebuild to turbo and have something to show for everything I've gone through.
So I am coming to the community that has kept me going, been great friends and asses, and basically one of the main reason I stuck with the DSM scene for your advice and opinions. I already know MB wants to put some powder on his hands and slap me. So I will probably ignore his vote :p (i'm not a coward mark, just a lot of money to invest for to little show)
So the next question would be, if I boost, boost to 9.6 or 10.5 (or maybe 8.8) if I'm boosting I'd want to still be on 93 octane, with hitting hopefully 450ish to the wheels, while still being bearable to drive on the street.
I think I covered most things, thanks for your time and insults.

I vote for boost. It take a lot of money but like you said you will make much more power in the end. Just dont go cheap on anything and it should be reliable.

Lol, I guess I got nothing I can say. You already covered it for me :order
But, if you do decide to go the wrong way, I would highly recommend that you do a 10.5 comp engine. It really does you no service to go 8.8 or even stock 9.6. The 10.5 has been done many times and proven to be reliable. As well as, if you ever decide to go back to NA or sell the set-up, you have a better bottom end to work with.
Oh yeah, one more thing; Jackass!

Boost it and enjoy it! The two built engines I got are both 8.8:1. The first one was my first rebuild and going higher than 9.0:1 just wasn't even in the back of my mind then. The second one i just acquired was already built with 8.8:1 j.e. pistons. If I ever do another one, which I'm almost certain I will. I would go with the higher compression 10.5 slugs.
Like Bullet said its been done enough now to see that it is def. doable with a tuner who knows what their doing.

I have 8.8 and the power out of boost frigg'n SUCKSSS! If I could go back, I would've gone high comp - without hesitation. If you go, go high.

Im not going to harass you on this one, lol. Honestly, its preference. I kicked around the idea of making a 10.5:1, boosted, crazy street 420A. In the end, I have decided to go high compression all motor Eclipse, and save the boost and all the maintenance therein, for the 2006 Evo IX I one day own.
