135636, Cleaning Egr valve, tips needed. Posted by dalesmitsu, Dec-14-11 09:24 PM
Tuesday night after work, my 2gb threw an p0401 code. Looked in my chilton's thankfully its only egr sytem failure, possibly clogged.
Instead of shelling out $94 plus tax new from autozone. I decided to clean it out, with brake Kleen. Have few new cans laying around when the store had a sale 10 for 10 bucks.
If anyone has done this before, could you offer some advice on removal and clean (what you used remove all that car build up).
Would be great, and might help out the new comers to the site also.

If you don't have etest just make a blockoff plate plate. But to answer your question, looking at your engine it's on the right hand side, in the corner closest to you, remove the 2 bolts, and cleanaway, the tube may also be clogged, so take it off the other end and clean the tube with whatever you want to use
Again, if u have no etest, just block the egr

No, etest in my county here in Ohio. If had the scrap sheet metal and space do to it, I would make them. They're only few bucks, I've seen online(cimotorsports) and ebay guy wants $30 seller is from Canada plus his plates dosent look right either. There was member here who at the time made them, sold them also.
I thought the egr is on the driver's side next to the crank position sensor. You must be thinking of the 4g63 engine.
Maybe a tootpick, or q-tip would help clean the gunk out after I spray Brake or Carb clean in the egr. I would like to be able to use this egr until the block off plates arrive in the mail.
