hey guys, i need your opinion. Here is the problem : I have no heat in my car. At first i thought it was the thermostat so i change it and still nothing. Then i move to the blower but it work perfectly. Then i found out that when i turn the knob to defrost the windshield and put it on 1,2,3, or 4 ( fan power) it wouldn't activate the blower but the fan in the engine !!! Also when i press on the a/c button it will also activate the fan in the engine!!!

So what should i do and check, I'm out of my knowledge area

car is 99 eclipse nt 420a

Turning on the defrost should also engage the AC compressor, meaning the condensor fan in the engine bay wwill also turn on. That's normal.

If you have no heat, it could be a problem with the linkage to the flapper at the evaporator / heater core, or the core may have been bypassed previously. Typically when they fail, the leak coolant into the passsenger compartment, they don't stop working. Check the lines to the heater core, it runs from the water neck to the hard line across the exhaust manifold, then back to the firewall, and the return from the heater core comes from the firewall, to the hard line, to the water pipe that feeds the water pump.

wow that a very fast reply. thanks i will check that out tomorrow. Another question, when i turn the fan knob 1,2,3 or 4 it doesn't activate the blower motor and all the fuse are in perfect condition how could that be??? thanks

switch could be bad, blower could be bad, or the resistor pack for the fan control could be bad.

I will second that. Check the blower motor resistor.

I look around the blower motor but cant seem to find it. Do you have a picture of the resistor, that would help greatly

It is located in the blower motor/HVAC box assembly under the passenger side of the dash.

Does the car ever seem to run hotter than normal? Its possible you could have a clog leading to it too, the hoses lead off the back of the head, to the firewall if you want to look at anything.

I recently had the same prblm with my heater. We tested the fan switch as well as plug under the blower motor. After trial and error (with ez's help) we were able to determine that even tho the fuses looked ok, the connection at the fuse female end (under the dash on driver's side) was not connecting properly. My fans in the engine bay also turned on. Try using a test light or power probe to test these areas, as a I recently priced out some of these parts (and most are around $100 to start) before you start tearing apart your car as I did....Also, check the relay that is right above the fuse box, bcus if thats out, heater wont function. Its about a $10 relay to replace (new)
