I just bought a ebay cold air intake. I know that the filter on it is crap so i want to get a good one. Some people are saying the green filter flows the best. I am not sure if thats true or not. Could someone tell me what is the best for performance (without wrecking my engine) and which sounds the best/loudest?

Get a K&N. They are proven, readily available, and pretty stout.

You are not going to notice a power difference across cone filters :)

Nope, not really. Get a K&N and be happy. Take the PN to Advance and look online for a coupon. I think there is a 10 off 30ish purchase too.

I prefer the Aem Dryflow filter that I have on my aem cai. You can buy them from Advance auto parts also.

It will work If your ebay Cai is a straight pipe Not two sections.

Its a must with cai (cold air Intake abbrevated) Anytime you read and cai thats what it means.

Damn, they jacked the price it used to be 49 oh well it still worth it.

I prefer the AEM dryflow as well, however, I doubt there is any diff at all between the two (power-wise), I just prefer the dryflow because there is no need to oil it.

The best one is the cheapest one. Despite the marketing behind them, brand name filters offer essentially no worthwhile performance benefits.

Are you really suggesting that an ebay filter has the same performance as an AEM or K&N?

Think about the whole brand name filter market for just a moment. If manufacturers were leaving so much efficiency and horsepower gains on the table simply due to a lousy filter design, why would they spend MILLIONS on improved aerodynamics, direct injection engineering, head design, etc etc... They could forget ALL that and just make a super duper ultra mega super high flow 5 star filter.

There is so much marketing and hype behind some automotive aftermarket segments that no one even questions things. They'll read a dyno testing article in an auto magazine between a brand name filter and an inexpensive alternative. Oh look they say the brand name filter made more hp somewhere there in the graph. Oh look turn the next page and GUESS WHO BUYS ADVERTISEMENTS IN THAT MAGAZINE.

Im running the ebay bomz racing filter. I have had the k&n and the aem dry flow with my aem intake and I have seen better mpg out of the cheap ebay one. Id agree with the you are buying the name. I can not speak for the hp gain or lose but the K&n gave me like 1-2 less mpg and the aem was around the same as the k&n. Not saying that they are bad brands but run the cheap ebay one and see what happens its still a filter so you can not due to much damage to your motor.

MPG is hard to ascertain considering the million different factors that go into it, such as weather, driving habits, grade of gas, shape of car at the time (how dirty the filter was). I'd say 1-2mpg could diffidently be within the error range.

I believe in the difference. Define "insignificant gain". 1-2whp? Hell as an NA guy that's a world of difference. Also you are saying that design, and advertising soak up the huge cost difference, but you forgot the fact of difference in material and material costs that can also lead to better performance and higher costs. I am a huge fan of K&N and AEM filters, and I believe there is a difference, how much of one is diffidently debatable, but hell a good $30 difference for a piece of mind I am getting a good 1-2whp is a good deal considering how hard it can be to squeeze whp out of these engines (at least from an NA standpoint) also coupled with the fact that they are million mile warranty, I don't see the point of the eBay intake filter IMO. I will say the difference (if any) from name brand filter to name brand is negligible if any.
