134309, head leaking oil thru the small plugs Posted by streetlightning, Jun-07-11 12:06 PM
I have a head thats fresh back from SBR, they did a pnp, and installed new freeze/galley plugs (not sure of the terminology) but the one in the back drive side and one of the 2 drive side ports seem to be seeping oil as im running.. its not gushing, but it is leaking oil.. how do i fix this? push them in further? is there a boss behind them to "seat " them? or? thx If i need to remove and replace the plugs, how do i do so? tips tricks?

Seems to me that you should contact SBR regarding this issue. If this head is in fact "fresh," you should not have any leaks.

they are "currently perusing their own projects" or some crap, so thats outa the question, even at that rate, theres not much they could do.. id have to take it off and send it to them, IF they even would do that, so its up to me to fix, id rather not loose any more time on something like that if i can do it . the head is fresh, the plugs that are leaking look brand new, there was still assembly lube in the valve guides. but it almost looks like its not seated all the way or seated at an angle,. so i was wondering if i need to tap them in further. Or if i can remove them and replace? if i can , im not sure how to go about removing them, center punch them like the block freeze plugs?

Are they leaking to the point that its running out of those holes and down the side of the head or what?

yessir. i cleaned them up for pix. its more of a "weeping" oil. its no gushing, but they are crying oil when engine is running. Im just going to punch and replace with loctite and see if i cant stake them

I hit them with a small center-punch near one side and pulled them out with needle nose pliers. I coated all of my new plugs with RTV and they haven't leaked. I'm sure loc-tite would be good as well.
