Ok... So I acquired a used AEM wide-band (gauge only) for cheap. I want to believe it's possible to just get a new sensor and "wire" it up to make it usable. I couldn't really find any info on doing this or maybe just don't know how to search for such a solution.

Anyone done this or have any thoughts.. or is it mostly a pipe dream?

I also know that the o2 sensor is about 80-90 new, so I know that will factor into the "total" cost of making it work.

Double to check make sure, but I think it uses a off the shelf VW O2 sensor.

Like 57 bucks at Advance Auto.

You may need the AEM to O2 harness though

I'd say if you just want it for a gauge it'll work - but logging/MS control it's worthless! I've had one for years and hate it with a passion. The data output changes based on air temp, not to mention switches modes (lambda, NB, WB) so the voltage is all over the place. If it was cheap, can't really argue, but just the same...

Mine works with my MS2 flawlessly....Datalogs show exactly what Im reading on my in car gauge.

Agreed. I log with mine and it works just fine.

That's good that some work, judging by the AEM forums it's not a singular issue though... I've just talked with lots of people who wished they'd gone with the LC-1 or another brand. Mine outputs a voltage that corresponds with being of an average of 1 A/F point. Don't know if it's been like that since new, I had it for months before I went to MS but it's been like that since - checked all grounds and wiring, etc, etc. Weird part is doing the no-sensor calibration it outputs correctly (14.7 is ~ 2.5V or whatever), but as soon as the sensor is hooked up it the output voltage changes scale.

Summarizing, glad to hear some work and hope yours work well too iamnowhoiam - just had to put in my $0.02!
