Posted by stracer107, Apr-28-11 09:51 PM
After years of hopin and wishing the time is here. So here is my plan any input will be great and along with suggestions and if I'm doing something wrong let me know.

BLOCK
95 talon block
Just took to the machine shop. (No torque plate I'm making one unless I can find one to use or rent cheap)
.020 over
Crower rods (used found a cheap set)
Wiseco 8.5:1 pistons
Balanced rotating assembly
Arp main studs

HEAD
Gasket match and quick clean up of burrrs and the sort
Cam gears
Other wise stock (for now)

OTHERS
Laser turbo
Turbo smart bov
Ebay waste gate (for now)
Boost controller
Ok so a complete kit minus ic (looking for fmic)
I also have a set of 450 injectors off a 2nd gen gsx thinking about useing
Doing a jeep tb conversion also
I want to do a ms at some point also
Right now I have about a $1600 budget my car is down so the rocket is all I have. And I'm giving up buying 2 new paint guns to get my baby back on the road. Any ideas or sugestions would be great.

Which crower rods? Also what are your goals?

I'm not to sure which rods they are. My goals would be a daily driver that I can take to the track and run in the low 13's. Not setting the bar to high untill I start to upgrade the head.

Looks like a pretty solid - and smart - build. Not seeing any mention of fuel system beyond the injectors, though. Thoughts on a fuel pump, FPR?

14b should be good to get you where you want to be with some practice.

Yeah I'm upgrading the fuel system a walbro 255. I have every thing that is required for a turbo system going off of what is listed on the fourm here on the build your own turbo kit. I just need a fmic.

All arp studs and bolts will be used were possible.

Will I have to do any tuning with this set up for now or will the stock computer run it?

As long as you are running larger injectors, an upgraded pump (I recommend the Wally 255) and have either a rising rate fuel pressure regulator or an FMU, you should be fine with the stock ECU. Of course, you will need either a missing link or a FCD for the MAP sensor as well.

I would also suggest you get a data logger or at the very least a wideband to help with tuning. Not a necessity, but something that will prove to be very valuable.

If you are still piecing together your fuel system and need a regulator, shoot me a PM. I have a BEGI rising rate with fittings and mounting hardware that I will let go for cheap. Also have 3 (sorry, not 4) Accel 270cc injectors.

Good luck, and def keep us posted!

If you haven't picked up the Wally yet, you might also want to do a little digging into alternates like the Supra or Evo pump. Sure, you won't save much over the Wally, but it's a thought.

Also, ARPs are super nice, but unless your near-term goals for this engine (2-4yrs, imo) involve drastically larger turbos and a lot of WOT, full-boost shenanigans - that is, extensive racing - you could probably pass on the ARPs everywhere but the head and be okay.

Fasteners add up pretty quick. Get that FMIC and see about a proper tuning solution. You really want on-board wideband O2, and if you can make a Megasquirt happen to handle the fuel, you'll be able to get the most out of that lump - safely.

Just some passing thoughts.

I was thinking about a wideband wasn't sure but think I will now. I still need the pump and fpr. I have a fcd. What mods are required to make them pumps work?

Thanks, boss! They have their place, but aren't necessary for a sub-400hp daily driver that sees occasional track use. (I was speaking more to how goals impact decisions.) ;)

@stracer - Not sure on what goes into using those pumps, but I know it's been covered before. Search here and maybe DSMtuners. All the FWD 2Gs had the same gas tank as far as I know, so you might even find out the OEM pump from a GST would be a direct bolt-in.

Don't quote me on any of that, but it's a couple angles to investigate.
