133950, 95 Talon - no power to the coil
Posted by foreverkeeps, Apr-20-11 04:28 AM
apparently the person we got this 95 talon from was having problem before we put the motor in another talon. All sensors have been replaced, there is no power to the coil.

Any ideas?

Checked all the wiring? What are the other symptoms? Is the no power to the coil the ONLY issue? Not saying its the problem but 95's are known for bad ecus? Is your ecu a square or rectangle?

All the wiring looks good,

it's a pcm, computer pack, it is close to square, maybe an inch difference, and it is still the computer from the recipient talon, a 98.

all the wiring is from the recipient talon (98), not the donor talon(95), and the recipient talon was running fine until the timing belt broke.

All 12-15 sensors have been replaced.

Those ecu's are not interchangeable. The harness pinouts are different from 95 to 96 to 97, 98 and 99 are interchangeable iirc.

You put an engine from a '95 into a '98, right? You re-used the harness and ECU from the '98? Did you use the '95 coil or '98 coil? You have been checking for power at the center pin on the coil, correct? That is probably the big black wire with red stripe. Is there power at the injector harness? That is the single pin undert he four injector driver pins. It should be the big black wire with red stripe.

thank you for helping, the answer is yes to all.

What about the "95 or 98 coil" question? The 12V supply to the coil and injectors come from the ASD relay. If you have 12V at the injectors, but not coil, then you have a break in a wire or junction connector. You could unwrap the harness and trace the center wire from the coil back until you hit some damage or a connector. Since it wasn't a problem before, I think you have to assume that something got disconnected or pinched during the engine swap.

This motor was giving the previous owner problems and they tried replacing the computer and lots of things and couldn't get it going. It died without warning he said, one day, getting ready to pull out from his driveway.

Everything mentioned has been checked, and the right parts for the right car are being used,, I just forgot what they were, so I can't say..

Mechanic says something seems to be blocking the crank. He also says the oil pan was somewhat smashed underneath, and he is wondering if this could have put some kind of pressure on the bottom of the engine and caused problems? Like to the crank sensor?

How does this have anything to do with no power to the coil?

Sounds to me like the mechanic is giving you the run around.

He is wondering if the crank or crank sensor could have been affected by the damage on the underside.... or the crank sensor could be bad for other reasons.

One of te fun things about electronics is that they can go bad for no reason at all. I haven't read the rest of the thread, but have you tried a known good crank sensor?

I guess it makes a bit more sense. Deff something to look into. I had a problem once of someone rebuilding the axle with out an actual axle ring and just put a clamp on it. The clamp actually nicked the crank signal wire, took me a while to figure that one out.
