I am putting in my cams, and i know the cam towers need to be torqued to 105 in lbs in the correct order, the question i have is, My TQ wrench only goes down to 120 in lbs. so thats 10 ft lbs to 8.75 ft lbs.. i dont want to break one.. so im sure 10 is to much, can i go to hardware store and get a higher grade of bolt and go to the 10 ft lbs? and i assume the small bolt on the exhaust cam side (cap 6) is also tq'd to 105 in lb

If I am thinking correctly (its late so please forgive me) You want a dial torque wrench, otherwise regardless you are risking breaking them. We used the normal click or snap TQ wrench set at the correct amount and still busted 2 or 3 of them ><

120's fine

i figured, but it just feels like it wants to break.. ill see if i cant get a dial tq wrench..

Won't matter if the bolt's titanium. Its usally the head threads that strip out if there is a problem.

Exactly. You are trying to defeat the parent material, and that is aluminum. AL is soft. You need to follow the specs or risk stripping the head.

Im not trying to do anything differnt then spec? I just was concerned about snapping one off..

i've snapped one off b4. no fun. do yourself a favor and ensure overtorque is avoided

yea, me too.. thats why im such a girl with these bolts.. i grabbed a dial tq wrench.. fingers crossed.

I have broken several of these bolts off. Never had the aluminum strip. Studs would be a good option

If you are snapping them, be real careful that they are tightening down at the same rate (per cap). If you tightened down one side bolt (of a cap) too far it will put undo side stress on the other bolt as you tighten it.

indeed i snug them down , i do may be 4 passes in sequence to snug the cap down evenly (eye balling it) then 1 more good snug before i go thru with the TQ.. i found the dial tq wrench is the bees knees..

Don't forget the out side bolts go to 21 ft-lbs. I did mine in three steps to make sure they seat well. I think it was 60-80-107
