133191, Mandy's 2011NA Built Motor Build
Posted by teklein, Feb-28-11 04:09 AM
Hey,

Picked up all the stuff from the machine shop and all parts are in. So its times to start the thread...

Most of this was the remnants of Slo2g's 420whp turbo car, only machined and fixed after oil pressure dropped. Goal is 170whp.

Bottom end:

Balanced to 10k rpm
10.5 CP pistons
Eagle rods
ARP main studs

Head:

Slo2g's old head
Ported and polished
+1mm Pep valves
Crower springs and retainers
Crane 18s
Fidanza cam gears
Gates racing timing belt with mechanical tensioner
ARP headstuds

End result on compression should be around 11.2:1. Head has been shaved around 4 times now that we know of. Should be assembled by Friday night, I may pull the motor Saturday. I need to tidy up some wiring and wax the engine bay during the week. So next Friday or Saturday it should be running.

excellent :) I would like to make a wager...

$20 says you don't make at least 170whp. You get 3 dyno pulls :) Show me what MSnS can do ;)

What's that green bumper in the 3rd pic? Looks like it has some god-awful FMIC trim job :p

And away you go. So you think you took .035 off the head so far? If you wanted to, your machinist could come up with that number. Just look up stock dimension and then measure what you have now.

Yes he could, but he didn't :shrug. I do know that if the head has to be milled again the valves WILL have to come out....gonna be fun Tim!

I see you passing 170 wheel with that setup and a good tune. Im at 167 with a 200k stock block, Crower 2s and a quite aggressive tune thanks to mr bullett.

We will make sure of it. I think that my tuner takes a video of every tune he does, the last pull.

Slo2g will know for sure.

That will happen in about 6 weeks I think. Ill get you a idle vid though :P

Plastigauged everything, all specs were spot on.

Crank and pistons 2 through 4 are in.

Piston 1's second ring snapped putting it in. Taking it off it was brittle as hell, so that explains it.

New ring set is on the way!

The ears on the hydraulic have been known to break esp with aggressive cams. Not to mention the cost difference of hydraulic vs mechanical.

Nice build...!

Take your time with the bay and clean it real good it will be so much easier to keep clean later I haven't washed mine in like 2 months and it looks really clean only a wipe to keep the dust from collecting. It's nice to have a clean engine bay especially when you work on it regularly and when people say damn that's clean and you are like... I havent cleaned that in more than a month...! lol

Trust me, this is the top of Tim's list. He is SO OCD about clean engines and such you will be able to eat out of the engine bay.

Yeah I have only been on this forum for 5 months and even I know that Tim will have that bay clean. FYI... something Tim is not OCD about... blurry pictures. I like the pink valve cover by the way. It says "I'm a bad ass and I'm comfortable with my sexuality." Good luck man.

Here's a little tip: Clean the lense of the camera off before you take the pic. It's focusing on your hand smudges.

So...

Did a comp test trying to figure out all these weird issues I am having.

160-145-150-180

Weird huh? On a high comp ass motor with a ridiculous ass shaved head?

Because teklein is a dumbass thats why.

88.5mm rings is for .040 pistons.

teklein has .020 pistons.

On the plus side, I made good numbers on a shitty ass ringed block.

Order rings, re hone, put back together.

omg................................... LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ok.. wheeewww, im done omg lmaooooooooooooooo no im nottttttt loll ok im seriously done now

tim, im not sure if you can take off that head and reuse it if it cant be milled again.. even when slightly releasing torque in reverse sequence, the head can slightly warp. just wanted to say that, so when you remove it, have it looked at for flatness, and have a back up if it does warp

He can reuse the head even if it is warped, just means the valves need to be taken out to mill it (6)!

I thought the head didn't have anymore material to be milled again. Can u really mill a head into the valves? If so, didn't know that

I mill a head when I blow a headgasket. Otherwise, it goes back on with a new gasket and new (if I need them) head studs.

Milling a head just because you've unbolted it is ludicrous.

Posted by Slo2g, Apr-13-11 12:15 PM
I think it depends on how hot the motor got, of course you can always take it off in small increments and check it with a straight edge to be sure.

Normally I would say no big deal (on checking/planing the head). But in your case, with the heat history you just had, I would have it checked at least.
