There is no signal output from pin 3 or 11 (trigger for coil) from the ECU.. any ideas?

all the sensors are fine and the MFI relay is working properly.

I am pretty sure i need an ECU, but i was curious if anyone had any ideas as to another possible cause.

How are you testing this? The ECU grounds these pins when appropriate to turn on/off the selected ignition coil. These pins should have continuity to ground at a fast rate during cranking.

Do you have megasquirt controlling spark?

I am using my voltometer with the positive pin on the positive battery terminal and the ground on the pins and looking for flow.

how should i go about it a different way?

and i have MSnS, but it is not controlling spark ATM

The hysteresis of DMMs may not accurately give you a good reading for a fast switching signal. Try the test again with the same points, but use a test light designed for 12 volts. See if you can get a pulsing light.

To verify your wiring:
- Crankshaft position sensor signal is sent to the stock ECU at pin 32 and the MS unit?
- Camshaft position sensor signal is sent to the stock ECU at pin 33?

If you receive no ground signal and your sensors are properly hooked up, you need to do what we have been telling you to do for weeks: swap in a known functioning ECU and test for operation.

I have no checked the MS, but i do know they are both sending to the ECU correctly. I will put a test light on the car tonight. I have been searching all over creation for a manual eclipse rs ecu and can't find one anywhere, let alone a KNOWN good one. i am 90% sure its the ecu.. i just finished cleaning the ecu pins and both harnesses with Radio Shack brand Electronics Cleaner and Anti-Corrosive lubricant spray. I am going to plug it all back in tonight and see if i can get a trigger signal then.

just tried with a new ecu... still no spark.

update:

there are 12 v going to the coil and if i crank the car while groundin to the battery and getting power from the coil plug, i get 12 v.

when i qround through the grounds for the coil (pin 3 and 11), i get 3.45 v on one and 5.28 on the other.
i also tested this at the pins on the ECU.same results


any ideas?

does megasquirt have an rpm signal? could you be having CKP sensor issues, that could result in no spark triggers if the engine has no idea where it is. that was my problem for the longest time, overlooked one little jumper wire in the megasquirt and when i hooked it up, it would pull the CKP signal output down to a 2v square wave as opposed to a 5v square wave, the stock ecu and the MS can not read that small a wave form.

It does have an RPM reading; i thought that was a possibility as well.

The problem is so weird. I wish my check engine light still worked :(

Check with an ohm meter the trigger pin(where it plugs into the coil) and where it plugs into the ecu for resistance. It should be next to nothing. >.5 and ohm. Do this for both sides. Of it is too high then you may have corrosion in that wire.

The fact that you get such a low voltage measurement tells me you have high resistance to ground somewhere in that circuit. I do not have a wiring diagram handy but I believe the ecu grounds to the unibody? Check and clean that ground.

Also if you get a jumper wire from the ground pin and just momentarily jump it to ground and I mean momentarily you should get a spark on that coil set.

thanks so much. i did the tests on both sides and they both came out with .3 ohms. What do you mean when you are talking about the jumper thing? it was confusing.
