132975, 2.4 swap begins. Posted by Red90Sev, Jan-17-11 07:56 PM
So, I have decided to commit to the 2.4 swap. I've been reading a lot and have come to the conclusion that the best combination would be the srt oil pump, srt timing tensioner, and srt oil pan. Anyone know where to pick up a edz shortblock? I've checked eBay and no luck. I live in a somewhat rural area, so a junk yard would be an out of town option. Any good websites? Also, any advice as to a good combo of parts from someone with experience would be appreciated. Oh, also, I just looked at the pics of CODE4's 2.4, VERY nice man. I plan to do Crower 2 turbo grind, all upgraded valvetrain etc. and I'll probably go with srt-4 rods and pistons. Forged of course. I am also going to try and tackle Megasquirt for the first time on my car as it sits. Right now I have the portfueler at 15psi on a 16g. That way I can be somewhat used to MS before the 2.4 goes in.

car-part.com and ask if they'll ship, craigslist...
You may also be able to dig up an EDZ fairly locally from Neons.org's BST section.

If you want to go MS route, definitely get familiar with it and running prior to a swap. You do not want to try to troubleshoot multiple installations at one time, I.E. motorswap and EMS swap.
There is only one spec for SRT4 rod/piston combo. Specifying forged is irrelevant as you do not have any other choice. Keep in mind the SRT4 combo is an ultra low compression, 8.0:1 if I recall. Off boost will be fairly weak. Keep that in mind with turbo combination - running a slow spooling turbo will be ridiculous on the street.
Check out MPx for swap parts - they ease purchasing by combining a lot of necessary parts in one package: http://www.modernperformance.com/engine-swap-engine-rebuild-components-c-160_397_749_750.html
SRT4 piston/combo: http://www.modernperformance.com/mopar-pistonrod-0305-neon-p-1733.html
Sounds like you have read quite a bit already - if you have not already check the Engine Swap section at Neons.org. Everything necessary is there.

Be sure to keep track of how much you spend. I'm also considering this when my current engine explodes. I'm not sure whether i should rebuild with a bigger motor or just get a different car.

I've been doing a lot of reading, but I either haven't read it, or missed it. Is there anyone who has done the 2.4 swap and kept the a/c? I searched a little just now, but I've read too much and am burnt at the moment, so I'm looking for an easy way out lol. I would like to keep my a/c if possible. TIA!
