The car has a new alternator from advance, its about a year old now. Battery was replaced this summer with an interstate battery. No corrosion on battery terminals.

The turbo timer I have shows battery voltage. So I have been watching the readings on the that. I only seems to have problems when the car is at idle when I have a lot of power being pulled from headlights, fogs etc. The voltage is sometimes perfect around 13v and then will randomly drop to low 11volts and even into the 10s at some points. This makes the car idle lean with MS and run like shit. The voltage is everywhere not consistent at all. Example 13.5,13.3,11.4,12.6. etc. When your driving the voltage is still all over the place but stays in the upper range of 13v mostly. Sometimes even touching 15v occasionally.

I do run an UDP but never had voltage issues running it in previous years. I would normally think the alternator is the problem with charging issues but with the unconsisten voltage all the time maybe it is a voltage regulator problem? With it in the ECU it wouldn't be easy to find another ECU to test it and I have never seen a voltage reg go out so I dont know what the symtoms would be. Hoping someone on here could help me out. Going full stand along in the next few months so I would go ahead and run an external reg if that happens to be the problem.

I had several voltage issues out of 2 alternators from Autozone and other auto stores, ended up going with a new one from dodge and the problems went away. Only other thing I could see would be adding some grounds or running an external voltage regulator since the voltage is regulated by the ECM.

I'm with Zac on this one. I would also venture to guess that many (if not most) of the rebuilt alternators out of Advance/Autozone/Pep Boys have these same inconsistencies. It's just most people aren't monitoring them so they don't see the drops etc.

Hence the reason to go Satan.

I will second the reliability issues in remanufactured units.

As far as the internal voltage regulator in the 2GNT ECU, mine failed on me years ago, prompting me to use the external voltage regulator option. At the time, a cost of another replacement ECU was out of the question.

Well looks like Ill be picking up an OE unit soon then. Will update with results
