Hi people, could you please help me? I have a 99 GS 420a with 106K miles on it. Just recently (two days ago), there has been having very rough starts and a horrible squeal/screech type noise coming from the tranny I think, this only happens when the engine is warm because when I first start the engine in the mornings it starts and idles as usual, without strange noises. Also, there is no CEL.

Today I cleaned the IAC, Thottle body (bored 55mm btw) and tested the TPS sensor with an ohmmeter and all looks fine, but what really stressed me out is the the noise coming from the transmission, I think is coming from there however to shift is smooth as normal, any ideas? please guys I need some advice and any help solving the problem would be much appreciated

For starters, how is the trans fluid? Proper level? Not old as shit?

Thanks for your answer, tranny fluid is ok, I changed 6 months ago with brand new Mopar for NVT-350

Ok, you do have some problems. Hard to discern the location of the sound of the noise from the vid. Try isolating it using the screwdriver to the ear trick (if you don't have a stethoscope). That is a wicked-ass bearing screeching. If its coming from the tranny I would guess input shaft bearing (just because of how "unshrouded" it sounds). But its so unshrouded, that it makes me wonder if its coming from somewhere else.

And yeah, you got a problem with all cylinders firing. You say it starts fine in the cold. Hate to put you to work, but could you give us a cold start? I like the engine start best. See if you can get that.

Thank you very much for your answer Captain, I'd like to upload a video when my car had a good cold start (few days ago) but right now I can't because it seems to be my problem is pointing another direction or is even worse(?), today just when I borrowed a better camera I tried to start my gs in the morning and the car just cranks but won't start, even I didn't hear the fuel pump priming the system, I tried a few times but I did't hear it anymore, however the fuel pump relay it works. I took out the gas cap and my brother tried to listen to the pump but he couldn't. Since today my odb2 code reader arrived I hooked it up to the obd2 port and I got the P0171 "Fuel trim too lean (Bank 1)" code in the pending list. Any ideas guys?

Tomorrow I'll check if the fuel pump is really working and I'll change the fuel filter, that's what it comes to my mind but I'm a #### I'll appreciate any suggestion.

hi! guys, well today I checked my fuel pump, relays, even my ECU as indicate Terry and XtremeRS in this thread and seems my fuel pump is dead. Since I'm going to turbo my 420a I'd like getting a Walbro 255 HP, do you think is a good idea for replacement keeping my stock FPR and staying N/A? I understand that at the same 47-52 psi from stock fpr Walbro pump can give me more gas than oem pump, would be ok?

Excellent! That would explain the hard starting and the cylinders not firing (fuel problems). Once you get that fixed we can try moving onto the screeching.

Hi and thank you very much for helping me.

Well finally I received my Walbro 255 HP LPH so I installed it and worked just one time at the on position (I could hear the loud sound of the pump priming) but at the run position couldn't start. I tried a couple of times but now (again) no sound coming from the walbro, so I checked everything once more time and now the FP relay is bad -using an ohmeter it gives 12 ohms for the internal coil- the asd is good though. I think that's the reason why fp is not running. I tested apart the walbro and works fine (is very loud :D) in fact the stock pump is fine too.

The problem now is that fp relay 83159 (part 04687567) I could not get it and the guy at the chrysler dealer told me they'll have in a week or so, I could wait but I'd like to know if a relay as Bosch 0332209150 12V/30A would work? is a 5 pin relay and it uses the same pin pattern as oem (plug and play) and actually is very cheap. Could I use the same Bosch relay for the stock/oem ASD relay?

I would like to change the two relays at once for new ones but some people tell me that asd and fuel pump relays are not the same, I understand they have different part numbers but in accordance with the guy at chrysler they are the same relays.

The Bosch will work. As long as have the correct connections and amp rating (30 A is good) it will work. No need to buy a dealer part.
