Im rebuilding my engine and was in the process of replacing the pistons. I will like to know how to remove the connecting pin for the rod and piston connection.

For a stock piston / rod set, you need a press. You'll probably ruin the piston in the process.

Stock pistons and rods are sold as a unit, and typically are replaced as such.

Most aftermarket (JE/CP/Wiseco) have a wire wrist pin lock on a groove on either end of the floating wrist pin. Pop it out with a screwdriver.

Your can disassemble a piston from a Rod without ruining it. The idea they are non serviceable is very much wrong. You will need ot take it to a machine shop unless you have a shop oven. The piston/rod assy needs to be heated. Set the oven on 500* and heat the piston till the wrist pin comes out. When properly heated the wrist pin will come out by hand but you will only have less than 30 secs to do it.

You COULD prolly heat the small end of the rod with a torch but you would have to be extremely careful becuase overheating the rod or any portion of it will result in the casting becoming brittle.

Local machine shop did it for like 30. 7 dollars a piston or something.

Yes; but what good does it do to remove the piston from the rod if the new replacement piston you buy comes with a rod pressed on already?

We both know anything can be taken apart, but for somethings it just doesn't make any sense.

I got the rods press out and now waiting for my new pistons to come in. Will I have to press the rods in my new pistons for connection or will it be easy to slid through without the press. I also forgot to mark the rods when removing them from the block. Will the be a problem if the a different rod end up in a different cylinder hole. Fyi, I did mark the caps that connect to the end of the rod

If it's a piston meant for a floating pin, you'll have to have the rods rebushed for a floating pin. if they're some manner of press-fit like a stocker, yeah, press 'em on... carefully.

If your going to use the factory rods for a budget build then you are going to have to have the rods heated and pins pressed in. The Factory rods dont have an oil port in the bushing area so it is a safer bet to leave them as press-fit pins.

Factory rods have held up to 19PSI, by on 2gnt'er and we really do not know how much farther he could have gone on them. Perfect reason to disassemble them and use them for a 350 and lower HP build or a 400HP test subject.

Not to argue, but there was a user here that consistently bent stock rods at 18psi, too.

And we all also know that 18psi on one setup is NOT equal to 18psi on another setup. 18psi on a leaner tune or more efficient compressor may have bent rods constantly, while 19psi on a richer tune or less efficient compressor ran just great.

We have multiple members who blow up motors at 6psi.........I suppose Hahn was wrong?
