Does anybody make urethane or aluminum grommet replacements for the valve cover bolts? I`ve had enough aggrivation with those soft rubber grommets causing my valvecover to leak.

They are there for a reason. The valve cover bolts are shouldered and compress the rubber grommet to provide pressure to seal the valve cover. If you're having a problem with them, maybe you should replace them with new rubber.

I've replaced mine I believe two or three years ago. I'm just wondering what the reason was that Chrysler put the grommets there unlike most other car manufacturers (besides preventing people from over tightening and stripping the threads out of the head. Wouldn't more solid pressure be better?

Vibration dampening to reduce NVH, prevent people from over torquing the valve cover and cracking it or deforming the gasket and creating leaks...

Shouldn't have a problem with them if you torque them down in sequence and to the right specs. Just get a new vavle cover gasket kit and try it again.

Funny-strange. I have yet to have a problem with those. I re-use those like toilet paper (hmm, maybe I shouldn't have added that.....).

I've had strange luck with my car, I guess. I wonder if my valvecover is warped, causing me some joyous aggrevation. Do the valvecover bolts use washers as well? My bolts bottom out when I try to torque them down. Well, in any case, I won't reuse the toilet paper, er... grommets, and just head back to the dealership (yet again :P) and place an order. I didn't know they were used to for vibration dampening... Yet another thing I learned today. :) I just hope there's not going to be a pop quiz... lol

I forgot to remove the rubber gromets on my VC when I had the powdercoating done and even after that when the where all caked up and dry looking they never leaked ..... Ohhh and I reused the spark plug seals also....lol
But I replaced all of that when I rebuilt the engine.... ;)
Maybe you dont have the washers or like you said it's bent for some reason... IMO

Lol, mine are still the original ones that came on the motor. Three rebuilds later and they're still kickin! Although they're aren't pretty lol. For future reference, does anyone besides the dealership sell them?

I guess Fel Pro doesn't include them with their kit. Either that or I got ripped off because I never got any with mine.

Funny thing is though, I never used them and I saved them up (each had its own little plastic bag). I just recently decided to throw them all out except for one.

I never got them with any kit. I had to go to the dealer for the grommets. Maybe the staff took them out to put them under their furniture to make non-skid bases...

I have reused them before only to have to replace them. Anytime the gasket gets replaced, i found I need ot replace the bolt grommets. Last time I just flipped them over and forced the mushroom end back into the cover and the sealed fine.
I never silicone my 4-banger VC gaskets either and some might be doing that aiding in the sealing process.
We could be lucky like the 4g63 and have a huge stack of cracked VC from people just tightening them snug.

I have never changed my VC grommets and have yet to have an issue with them, despite the fact that my VC has been pulled countless times. In fact, a few of them are pretty worn and have tears, still no leaking issues :shrug
