You can still see the cross hatch in the score. But I guess I need to know what needs to be done.

Measure the cylinder for out of round. can you feel it the "scores"

to me it looks like scuffs from the piston skirt, due to too small of a skirt clearence, usually caused by rapid expansion. may i ask why you disassembled it?

OK...Thanks for the advise. I can't feel them. I'm returning the car back to stock. It was runing fine. I wish I would have checked the compression before I tore it down though.

Do you know what causes "rapid expansion?" To lean and got hot? Inadequate cooling system? I did not beat on this engine, at all. And I was really dissapointed when I saw this. I was hoping to sell it as a turn key 2.4. But if it needs rebuilt, I'll have to sell it as such.

If you cant feel it and measuring the bore confirms this as well there isn't anything to worry about. Its because the cylinders transfer their heat through the large cast iron block with coolant passages. The pistons however give off only a small portion of their heat. This means because metal expands when it's hot the pistons will expand before the cylinders. And you will get a scuffing on the cylinder wall. As long as the hole isn't out of round. Your fine. Drop a hone through it and most of the marks will go away.
