One of my coworkers has a 96 avenger automatic with the 420a. My cousin has 95 talon 5 speed with the 420a. I was wondering if I could swap the engine from the talon into the avenger. And if this is possible what all would be needed to do the swap?

Swap away, just make sure to use the sensors from the car that it's goin into. The sensors from 95's and later years usually aren't compatable.

Otherwise the 2 cars are the same basic chassis and with the exception of some cosmetics are virtually identical. Swap away with confidence.

Just to clarify this, the sensors are electrically compatible, however, the sockets changed in late 96 / early 97 so you won't be able to plug the old style sensors into the new style harness.

Ok so let me get this right. In order to swap the engine I will have to take all the sensors off avenger engine and put them on the new engine? What about the transmission? The avenger is an automatic and the talon is a 5 speed. Will it need a different adapter plate or anything?

Same "adapter plate". Its called a flexplate btw.

And yes, you will need to swap sensors due to different connectors.

Also, I just want to clarify this: You do know that its the SAME engine, and wont net any horsepower gains correct?

Yeah I know it's the same engine, I used to have a talon, actually the talon that i'm taking the engine out of used to be mine. Then I sold it to my cousin and he wrecked it. Then a coworker of mine had just bought an avenger and needed a new engine, so my knowledge of dsm's actually came in handy.
