131897, Removing charcoal cannister
Posted by 740 turbo brick, Oct-16-10 08:14 PM
Is there any detrimental effects to removing my charcoal cannister or whatever is in the passenger side bumper? I know its controlled by the stock ECU, which is long gone on my car, so its basically useless right now. I just dont want do die in a car fire/explosion if I remove it...

The thing behind the passenger side vent in the front bumper is not the charcoal canister. Its actually one of two EVAP canisters our car uses. Charcoal canister is a bigger item that is under the car in front of the gas tank.

If you are no longer running on the OEM ECU, I say remove it. If you were still on the stock ECU, it would throw a code.

No Jesse you have a 99 which is the only model like that. His is in the front bumper in the passenger side. If he goes hunting for it in the rear like your telling him to......he will spend hours huntiong for a part that doesnt exist in that location.

WOW, thats crazy. I love this site, I learn something new about DSMs every day. So only on 99 Eclipses, that black tank is back by the fuel tank? Weird..

Yes the LDP is back there on the 99 also. All of ours are located in the pass fender.
