Ok.. so this timing belt thing is taking way toooooo long. I am ready to put on the crank pulley.. stripped the first bolt.. got a new one and a new corded impact.... seems i cant get this frigging pulley to go on. At this point my longer bolts appear to have messed up the thread on the inside of the crank thing. Am I screwed here? How big of a frigging impact do I need to make this thing get back on there? This one i got is rated at 220ft/lbs

Installing a crank pulley is a huge bitch. I had to do the oven trick to mine. Preheat to 350*, bake for 30 mins, put on crank snout and BFH away.

BFH. Always used a fingernail to gauge to gauge clearance to oil pump surface. Don't strip the crank! 105lb-ft if I remember right.

If this pulley is from Hel, try getting the whole world to weep. He likes that sort of thing.

So what kind of hammer should I look to get?

I tried a board and a regular hammer.. didn't seem to budge. Sadly i got it on probably halfway the first time, but it seemed stuck so i pulled it off again and have yet to get it to the same spot again.

By hammering it should I be worried about messing up anything like the crank itself with the side impacts from a hammer? I am also thinking that I should be using some sort of rubber mallet?

Don't have one of those, much less would be scared to use it.

You have to heat the pulley. Otherwise, it's more likely to fuck up the crank threads than get the pulley on.

Using a BFH on a cold pulley to drive it onto the crank is *stupid*.

I wait until the ambient temperature drops, so that the crank is as cool as possible. Then I place a bag of ice on the snout, and bake the pulley (aftermarket aluminum) on BROIL for half an hour. Slides right on. I usually don't need a BFH, nor do I like to subject the bearings to that kind of stress.

Heat the sucker up in the oven, and it slides on like butter... just make sure you throw it on quick as it cools fast!

Yeah.. go figure. Wish I had realized this in the beginning and not tried to rig it. Ordering this tool now.

i'm a hard headed ass hole so I use a BFH anytime. -32 degrees or not. If it breaks, so what, i'll rebuild it. stupid ass rules. i still love you dino and dave
