Car sat for a few months while i worked on my trans. Started the car up last week and i had a knock from the engine. It Would be there till i reved it till maybe 3-4k then it would stop, but come back at idle. So i figured rod knock maybe. So before i went any further i wanted to do a compression test on the engine. So i left it warm up. the warmer the engine got the less i could hear the knock. When it got up to reg temp the knock was barly noticable. Till i reved the engine then it came back. did the test and got 1. 185, 2. 205, 3. 195, 4. 205.Next day i Drained the oil and noticed specks in the oil. So I took the oil pan off. Noticed small peices of metal in the bottom of the pan. Removed all the rod caps annnnddddd none were spun. Took a flash light and looked at the bottom of the pistons and no damage... I'm lost now. Anyone know what the problem could be. I also checked the lifters and rockers but their fine. The knock seemed to come from uder the head toward the back of the motor near cylinder 1.

Knock could be up high in the wrist pin area. It would be hard to say mains because generally it would take a bit of trauma to screw up the mains that badly.

But, especially since it was not a super bad knock, I would like pics of said bearings........

heres pictures of the bearings. Their not pretty. I thought i had a problem with the car runnin lean since i took the plugs out last month and they were white. I installed an AEM wideband just before starting the car and at idle it was 14.3-6. Havn;t driven the car at all to tell if i did have a lean problem or not.

How about current pictures of the bearings, not last year.

put everything back together today and started the car and still have the knock. for some reason i dont think its a rod knock. maybe the peices of metal are from a different event in the cars life.

Ok, those don't look too good (but I've seen a LOT worse). You can see that there is some material floating around in there.

But that could be what you are hearing, is on-set of rod knock.

Onviously, plastigauge is the next step to see if the crank is within limits. But you gotta ask yourself what's the end play on this fix? Are you just trying to get her by for a little bit? Or are you looking for a long term solution. If you are just trying to get her by, I would just polish up the crank with some 600 or so, and try the bearings (just because bearings are cheap - and I keep a set on my shelf, lol).

If you are looking at a long term solution, then you gotta tear her down. That metal has probably also landed and been absorbed by other parts of the engine (say crank bearings).

yea right now im done puttin money into this car for the fact that is basicly a rusting POS. So im just gonna drive it till it dies. then i'll pick up another 2gnt but in better condition

Well, hell, why not just spend the 20 bucks and put her back together with new bearings? Got nothing to lose but 20 bucks (Ok, might be just a bit more than that, but close).
