13144, Test pipes, resonators, and resonated test pipes.... Posted by jdeyo, Jan-28-02 09:54 AM
I was looking at www.testpipes.com and am interested in getting a test pipe that is made for us. I am having a little trouble figuring out what the difference is between a resonated pipe and a regular one. I know that a resonated test pipe has a resonator in it, but what does a resonator do for our exhaust system? Does it get rid of the raspy bee in a tin can sound?
I also like the pipes available on this site, cause they claim to have catalyst material included in a custom O2 sensor bung. They claim this tricks the ECU. I currently have a gutted cat and my car sounds horrible. I dont even want to rev it up cause it does not sound respectable. I also have a Ractive Muffler which sounded ok before I gutted my cat... Which leads me to think that my gutted cat is causing my exhaust note to sound bad.
Also, does anybody make a filter circuit of some sort to delay and reduce the rear O2 signal? This would make the ecu think that the cat was still present. Since all the cat does is reduce the emissions, you have to reduce what the rear O2 sensor detects. Project idea anyone?

search the archives about that o2 sensor trick ....there's a website somewhere that tells you how to make one...

When you have large piping and no cat the exhaust sounds a little like a 3" on a GS-T. I dont care what my car sounds like I just want it to perform great. I am going to put on my straight pipe this weekend along with my boost controller. I will let you guys know what kind of a difference the straight pipe made. I ordered my straight pipe from extreme motorsports for $50. Its 2.5"
