i just bought a eclipse gs for $800, i dont know much about these motors and i was curious what would be the best way to build the block for a turbo and to be reliable as well. I am gonna buy a set of wiseco forged pistons and eagle rods and get the block hot tanked and honed and maybe bored over .20 over but wasnt sure how reliable it would be after i get some boost on it, just curious of what everybody is running and what would work best to get some decent power out of and be a reliable daily driver, how much boost can you run on the stock sleeves and ect. thanks very much for all the help and again im just doing the fresh build so i can save for the turbo during break in period

You can make pretty good power if you can build the bottom end and tune it properly. There is a car for sale in the FS section that put down over 500hp. Bulletdsm made something like 586hp on his motor and Robert aka DSN-Zero put 661hp to the wheels.

There is a lot of potential on the motor. Honestly, I would suggest running a search through the turbo section. There is a lot of information here and some of the members may not be so kind on a post like this where the answer is easy to find.

No biggie. It happens to everyone. Reliable is up to you. Depending on how much care you put into building the motor and maintenance.

its gonna be a long process lol cause i have no clue about anything turbo or building a performance engine for that matter lol but reading is helping out alot just learning all these terms and finding a good path to start out on i think is the key. totally didnt know what i was getting myself into but im stoked

For an $800 car, I would go through it taking my time to make sure that all the maintenance is current. There is no point in modding the car to go faster if you need brake pads or the CV Shafts have torn boots.

Well the car runs really good or has since I've had it the dummy who had it rattle canned it flat black, I did a full tune up on it changing the coil pack wires and plugs pcv valve, I looped the power steering since the pump was going bad I just need to get the exhaust done since the muffler is in the hatch for sme reason and I my friend said that the rear shocks looked bad when he was following me but I didn't notice driving. The only thing I'm stimped on is when u hit about 3000 rpms it has a slight hesitation and I read through the post for that and I'm thinking maybe when he replaced the timing belt he has it off by a tooth or so or maybe a fuel filter but everybody looks like they've had this problem and there is a few possibilities for the cause, and the car also has 200 k miles

Try pulling the CAS off the side of the head. It will probably have a little oil on it. Wipe it dry with a paper towel. DO NOT USE ANY CLEANER. Look around the edges and see if it has cracks. If so, it may be filling up with oil and causing the car to stutter. I chased my mystery stutter for about a year before I found the CAS was dying.

I hope that works I will check that out Thursday, I hope its not gonna be a quest to find the culprit lol I def appreciate all the info and help. Would that throw a cel? I knw there is that radiater light or whatever its called I figured that's from the guy taking the resoviour out however its spelled. I just haven't taken it to autozone yet since it hasn't been plated yet to get the codes ran

It may or may not throw a code. Depends on how bad it is breaking up.

I rebuilt my engine and I just need advice about initial start up, what the oil should look like afterwards, and breaking in the engine

well from what ive gathered from research is when you change your oil after the first start up would be looking for metal shavings and ect. if you missed anything after cleaning the block and ive been told to not really rev the motor over 3500 rpms and take it easy for the first 1500 miles but im not that far in my build yet but do some more reading im sure you'll find it

I would by a couple replacement door handles, clutch master cylinder, valve cover gasket, cv joints and an ODB II scanner, just cause you will need all that. guaranteed.
