13136, screw holding up my intake fell out....
Posted by Mystic511, Jan-28-02 08:02 AM
you know that side bracket that comes off the intake and screws into the side of the engine? Well, i discovered the screw that was holding it fell off... so basically.. nothing is stablizing my intake except for the hoseclamps connecting it to the throttle body..

so um... is this unsafe? I'm really too lazy to go buy a screw to replace it. And what about that wire/sensor that the screw was originally holding up? is that going to be a problem?

I never had a bracket on my intake. Never was a problem..

Just put another screw in it.

the screw fell out of my AEM, too. That screw they use really is a POS. It is the self-tapping type and sucks balls. I bought another screw and used removable loc-tite on it. Look around in the engine bay... my screw was jammed in between some hoses. Haven't had problems since.

loc tite is a thread-sealing compound... I design stuff (I'm a mechanical engineer) and I use loc-tite just about everything. It is basically this shit you put on threads to make sure that the bolt does not back out (especially useful when shock and VIBRATION are a problem). They have lots of different kinds.

The most common types used are:
Loctite 222 (purple): very small threads (1/4" and less)
Loctite 242 (blue): removable locktite (for 1/4" and bigger)
Loctite 262 (red): permanent fastening (for up to 3/4")

They sell a BUNCH of other ones for high temp and ultra high strength. Blue is the best for all around use, cuz you can take it apart easily and holds fasteners in very nicely. You can buy the stuff just about anywhere.

Just make sure all the clamps are on tight.
