13076, Tranny swap ... DONE!!!
Posted by Avenger, Jan-27-02 02:27 PM
Can I get a "Hell Yeah"? All the cuts, bruises, aches, pains, clothes that will never be clean again ... all worth it. Every FREAKING PENNY ... worth it. My car before was quick for an AT (low 17 high 16 ... fastest time ever before was a 16.9). But now ... Oh MY F'ing GOODNESS. It was great. Can you tell I'm excited. For all you that have rode in my car before I need to take you for a ride again ... it'll feel like a night and day difference. I'm AT LEAST a second faster on the butt-o-meter. I'm not sure but I think we chirped 1st and 2nd. Maybe 3rd. I can't remember. I didn't drive in the two passes we made with it (I'm a little new at the MT racing bit). When I took it out I did chirp 2nd but I missed 3rd and 4th. Oh it feels so great.

BTW, I also blocked off the egr, replaced the sportlines w/ prokits, swapped tires/wheels (kinda), and did the swap of course. So quick it's so beautiful. :) :) }>

I'll put pics and more detail up tomorrow. I dead ass tired and I'm SO NOT looking forward to work tomorrow (just the drive up there }> )

Can't forget all the people that I have to thank for helping me with this.

ARD ... you guys know who you are so I won't mention names but you guys are the greatest. Figuring this whole mess out and putting in all the time and effort for helping me out.

Trisha ... being brave enough to let the prototype it on your car.

Jason ... driving my butt around all weekend, taking me home, making part runs, and making food runs.

And the rest of the Houston guys for helping me out and getting me to this point. You guys rule. I'm lucky to have friends like ya'll.

On a side note, everything took about 12 hours I think. For the swap, the springs, oil change, and whatever else we ended up doing. :) Still smiling ear to ear. :)

Congrats on the swap. It only took 12 hours to do all that? Seems a lot easier than a tranny rebuild then. hopefully I will not need either. But out of curiosity, how much would it be typically parts and labor installed.

Can you post some details about what parts are needed to do the swap? I'm going to do the swap myself so any info/pics/prices you can post will help me out A LOT! I'm doing the swap ASAP. Is your redline still 6500, or is it 7500? Any details you can provide are much appreciated.

I'm at work so I don't have access to the pictures but I'll try to put them up tonight. As for a complete parts list, it cost me $820 for all the parts we needed. I don't remember every part on the list but I'll list as many as I can remember

Tranny (duh!)
clutch
rear tranny mount
brake pedal
clutch pedal
slave cylinder

I know there is more. I'll post more on it later.

BTW, it probably a bad thing to go spinning tires at every light, right? }>

Good Job now you knwo how it feels to have a new car Sorta. You can also beat Hondas and Probes and V-6 mustangs now. I dorve on of my cousins auto eclipses and my dads four door cavalier felt faster. But you are now part of the manual crew. Hmmm I feel a poll coming on.

Well I never really had problems beating on lightly modded Civics (except SIs) and I could keep up with those stangs (from a roll). She was pretty quick before all this. Although, I don't think that any of those will be even close now.

You know I was waiting for you to chime in there Michael. You were probably the person that motivated me the most (or at least told me the most) to do the swap.

Hopefully I can make a trip up to the windy city sometime if I get some time off. I need to get better at driving/racing the car. I'm okay driving the car but I still sometimes forget what gear I had it in. Plus my bum left leg (knee actually) is kinda sore. I don't think it has had this much work to do in like 3 years. On racing, I keep missing the shift to 3rd, and 4th ... but that'll improve with time. And I need to figure out how to acutally get some traction ... I spin most of first even when I'm NOT trying to. I can always chirp 2nd if I try (that is if I make the shift). It's too cool. I'm gonna try to put on the cam gears and motor mount inserts sometime soon and get an egt so I can tune the afc better. Then we'll see what this sucker can do. I may even take it to the dyno to see what she'll put to the floor. :)

I took a picture of me kicking(fake kicking) the old AT leech transmission. It's pretty funny. I'll post it when I get the pic off of Jason's digital cam.

You remember how fast my car was last night and I STILL MISSED every shift. Can you imagine that WITH boost. Crazy. Man I need to work on shifting gears better. And we need to fix you boost issues too.

YEAH! That'd be kinda like.. uhh.. MY CAR! Yeah!

Thura: Last night, decided it was nothing. Was only a quart low, nothing loose. Oh well. Maybe it's all in my head.. Car's fast a knutz tho.

You guys heard about what was wrong with Jason's car? Bad enough that I had to drive him home but lucky enough that we won't be needing to rebuild the head/motor. I'll send you some email.

You should ask Jason how I was driving last night ... I'm a crazy dude. }>

ouch...tensioner pulley broke???

be ready to dish out about 130 bucks for that sucker....they dont sell only the pulley, but the puley only comes together with the big bracket that bolts to the block...

13105, RE: Tranny swap ... DONE!!!
Posted by iamnotwhoiam, Jan-29-02 05:50 AM
nope they sell just that pully and have connections to get it for about $40 and both those pulleys are the same.. im getting new ones and also the t-belt tensioner.. should solve all those probs..

just reminds me not to skimp on things like this..
