130413, No Start. Fuel Pump not priming. Posted by Green_machine97, Apr-21-10 05:58 PM
Been dealing with this problem for a good month now. Engine turns over but not getting fuel. Im getting power to the fuel pump, but its not priming which lead me to believe that was my problem in the first place. So I replaced the pump but its still not priming before I turn it over. Id really like some help on this because im having one hell of a time trying to figure out why it wont start. Thanks

do you have a wiring mess, sorta like this?

How did you check for power to the fuel pump? If you have power at the fuel pump connector during cranking, it should pump. If it doesn't, the only thing I can think of is a bad fuel pump.

My car doesn't always prime on the "ON" position sometimes it takes kicking the starter.

This is kind odd but my CEL doesnt even come on for a few seconds when I turn my key to the ON position, I was going to see if I could pull some stored codes when I noticed it. Think this has anything to do with it?

Yup. If you don't get the CEL for a couple seconds your ECU has probably taken a shit
Double check the fuses for the ECU as well

Pretty damn sure its the ECU then since the fuses are good. Anyone got one for sale or know where i can get one?

Check the FS threads for someone parting a 97. ECUs are year specific with the exception of 98/99

call sia electonics in tilden ill. i sent my ecu there and if its good, they charge around 100 for checking it. if bad they can rebuild it or replace the board if too shot.

On my car, if you turn the key to on like 3 times in a row the fuel pump will no longer prime, probably to prevent damage of some sort. Doesnt really have anything to do with the problem here, just felt like sharing.

Ok you get power to the pump but the pump doesnt run at all? Did you hold the pump in your hand to make sure it doesnt run at all during a cold prime?
3 possabilities. Since you replaced the pump we will rule that out.
1. The ground is missing in the harness to the pump. Fuel pump rewire will solve this.
2. Connector on the fuel pump hanger or the mini harness in the hander to pump is getting a bad connection or failed.
3. If the pump runs but doesnt prime then you either have a blockage in the fuel line/filter or the regulator shit the bed.
FWIW, take a drill battery and power up the pump to make sure its good.
