130131, supercharged 420a Posted by PDUBS, Mar-23-10 07:15 PM
im in the process of attempting to supercharge my motor, getting a gm 3.8 supercharger so give me a list of what i need to make this work. thanks guys

if you need someone to tell you what you need, you should not be attempting this.

well i meant like what do i need compared to turbo stuff, do i need bigger injectors? if so what size? things like that

Once again, read my above post. You are asking questions that are extremely vague without describing your intended setup, purpose, & power goals.
Hence the lack of responses.

You better start with a Megasquirt setup...

No. He needs to start with a book.

I concur.

im sorry i asked a stupid question, i came on here for help rather than criticism. i apparently dont have your guys' infinite wealth of knowledge.

We are not being asses about this; if you need help with basics - for example an increase in air density requires an increase in fuel - then a project such as this will have you neck deep before you know it. So yes, you need bigger injectors and/or modified fuel delivery system.
The fundamentals of a turbo and supercharger setup are essentially the same - the mechanical delivery is different. The wealth of knowledge is all here in past threads for you. Search.
And you still have not stated your goals for this project for anyone to even begin offering help to you.

my intention is to be slightly different from everyone who puts a turbo on their 420a, i dont plan on officially racing the car anywhere so it would be just my daily driver. looking to get somewhere between 200-250 hp from it with the supercharger on stock internals. now what i apparently didnt ask was what i needed. So ill ask now, what do i need to obtain my goal? what parts are needed?

A lot more research and searching. A good helping of proper capitalization and punctuation would help us take you more seriously as well.
Part of the reason that we tell people to do their research is that 99% of it has already been done and is housed within this forum, we don't feel the need to repeat it constantly.
The other reason is that we've found that when we just tell people that they need "X, Y and Z" parts, we end up with a helpless idiot that ALWAYS tries to do something their way and gets all pissy when their engine is blown all to hell. When you take the time to learn how everything works BEFOREHAND then it's much easier to describe the inevitable problems so that we can give you MUCH better help in the long run.
It's a culture of growing better tuners here. We're not being assholes, we're making you learn what you're doing to become a better tuner.
You mentioned a GM 3.8 supercharger. What's the PSI that it will be running? What's the flow rate at said PSI? How are you going to build a manifold that will work with that? How are you going to get a belt setup to drive it? These are questions you have to figure out for yourself because nobody else here is doing this.

I'm sorry about the punctuation and capitalization. The supercharger will be running at around 8 psi and I am having a machinist make a manifold adapter that will bolt to the lower half of the existing 420a manifold and the supercharger. I have done some of this research on this website and found hardly anything, and someone posted a link earlier in this discussion that was for a SOHC neon engine. Since I'm here to learn I will ask something right now, what did you mean when you said flow rate?

130154, RE: supercharged 420a Posted by RoninEclipse2G, Mar-24-10 06:35 PM
Flow rate = CFM's. 8psi from one source is NOT the same as 8psi from another. 8psi on that supercharger won't be the same volume of air that a big 16g turbo will put out. Turbos and superchargers have flow rates that are measured with compressor maps that it really helps to learn how to read because you'll need them to help figure out your fuel setup.
That page from neons.org will net you a lot more info than you may think. Nobody here that I know of is doing superchargers. The SOHC bottom end is very similar, and the fuel setup is pretty close as well. You'll have to be able to calculate the fuel requirements for the supercharger because it will be different than a turbo.
Read, read some more, then read till your eyes bleed. Wait for them to heal and repeat the process.

Flow rate meaning CFM - the volume of air being moved. Boost is not about pressure, it is about density. 30 psi through a 16g is nowhere near 30 psi on a GT3076R.
For your HP goal - realize that it is a function of a physical amount of fuel being burned. Google some HP and Injector calculators - RC Engineering has one. That is why I said to state your goals as once you have that in mind you can establish how much fuel you need to burn to get there.

based on the calculations from rc engineering I will need 450cc injectors, so I will obviously need a different fuel pump. other than that I'm not sure what else I'll need for fuel delivery.

We have a lot of fuel information here: Fuel_System
You will need a calculator, but everthing is there to help you choose a fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and injectors.

Actually, you didn't ask a question at all. You simply told us to give you a list of parts without showing either research into such a project or respect for those who might have the knowledge to help.

Exactly, if you have no knowledge of what your doing, then your best bet is not fooling with it until you have the correct know-how and you know what your achievements are.
