ok, i looked at my timing belt the other day and checked the slack in it, it had alot of slack i could almost slide it of. i drove it for a little while checked it again, and it was tight. i just checked it again and it was loose again. is this normal?

No, that is not normal. Sounds like your tensioner is going bad. I would not drive the car until you replace it.

It is possible that you installed it incorrectly. There should not be that much slack.

If it's getting loose and then tightening up it's either bad or improperly installed. No other possibilities.

My guess is that you installed the tensioner with the pin pulled and just pushed it up in place until things seemed tight. The tensioner needs to be installed with the pin in place. You set your tension and tighten the bolts retaining the tensioner. When it's done properly you should be able to remove and reinstall the pin without loosening the retaining bolts

no, i know how to do it. i can still put the pin in and take it back out no problem.

It is normal to have slack between the two cam gears up on top, after sitting. But it is NOT normal to have enough slack that you can almost side the belt off. I suspect that you may not have installed the tensioner properly.

There is also the possibility that your cam gear/cam may be bent (or something else is bent).

well everything was good befor. i changed the belt acorrding to the manual. everything was done right so i dont know.
